Richard Sherman: Revis “irrelevant in my mind”

Richard Sherman AP

The 49ers may or may not be interested in acquiring Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.

We know this much: Richard Sherman isn’t concerned either way.

The Seahawks’ cornerback, who had a memorable written and verbal dispute with Revis last week, told 710 AM in Seattle on Wednesday that he’s indifferent to whether Revis lands with Seattle’s primary NFC West rival.

“It’d be fun either way,” Sherman said, according to Sports Radio Interviews. “There’s always a rivalry there. I still wouldn’t get to play against him directly, so it really wouldn’t matter to me. I’m sure our receivers would have a little fun with him. I don’t mind either way. He’s really irrelevant in my mind.”

You may recall Sherman also taking to Twitter last week to refer to Revis as “irrelevant.”

Think there will be a lot of focus on which cornerback has the better season in 2013?

    “irrelevant in my mind”

    Sherman, your mind is irrelevant.

  2. randyschwimmer7 says: Feb 28, 2013 2:43 PM

I’m starting to like Sherman more and more every day. If Revis thinks he is the best defensive player, or best corner, why has he never won the defensive player of the year award?

  3. chawk12thman says: Feb 28, 2013 2:44 PM

Coming off the Revis ACL my guess is Sherman will have the better season between the two next season. Both will be good. Both will talk trash.

  4. hrmlss says: Feb 28, 2013 2:46 PM

I REALLY hope Revis is traded to Seattle! That would be so fun to watch this site explode on a daily basis.

  5. mtx1992 says: Feb 28, 2013 2:48 PM

Last time I checked the one who started taking jabs at Revis out of nowhere, so I’d say Darrelle is pretty relevant to you, Mr Adderall.

  11. bobhk says: Feb 28, 2013 2:50 PM

For a guy talking so much about Revis, it’s hard to believe that “He’s really irrelevant in my mind”.

Then why talk about him that much?

  12. andymannfl says: Feb 28, 2013 2:51 PM

I guess in the same way that four of Sherman’s six picks this year were irrelevant since they came against the Cardinals and Rams. Hey Sherm, how about you go back to work on how you’re going to Braun your way out of your next PED test failure. Go away.

  13. shlort says: Feb 28, 2013 2:52 PM

I also recall Sherman getting away with doping on a technicality. I do not remember Revis ever getting caught doping. That is the difference between these players in my opinion.

  14. lifetimeskinsfan739 says: Feb 28, 2013 2:54 PM

I think in trying to put his name out there Sherman is going to make everyone sick of hearing it in record time.

  15. h3min1230 says: Feb 28, 2013 2:55 PM

I know one thing, I’d hate to be a receiver next year with one of these 2 lined up across from me, they’ll each want to prove whose better so they’d both definitely be motivated.

  16. logicalvoicesays says: Feb 28, 2013 2:55 PM

Can’t stand annoying people like Sherman.

  17. love49ers says: Feb 28, 2013 2:58 PM

I don’t undestand this guy. If Revis was irrelevant he wouldn’t have talked about him in the first place. Plus I don’t remember Revis getting suspended for PEDs. (I know he got away with it on a technicality)

  18. shaggytoodle says: Feb 28, 2013 2:58 PM

Sherman must like to hear himself, must be the only way to make himself feel relevant.

  19. bucrightoff says: Feb 28, 2013 2:59 PM

The offseason sucks so bad. Between Sherman, Suggs, Revis and all the other blowhards, its making it unbearable.

  20. ronp407 says: Feb 28, 2013 2:59 PM

So irrelevant that he brought his name out to shine some lights on his own career. This guy can’t keep his mouth shut for 3 days.

  21. jwreck says: Feb 28, 2013 3:01 PM

This is the telling year, as it is Sherman’s third. A couple weeks ago Sherman asked what has “Revis done?” In Revis’ third season, he was the focal point of a defense on par with Seattle’s defense today. With a dramatically worse quarterback, they went to the AFC championship. We can talk about press coverage, man coverage, matchups and 40 times until we’re blue in the face, but the Seahawks’ success this year will be the inarguable litmus test for Revis and Sherman.

And in case you read any judgment into that either way, there was none. I honestly couldn’t care less about the Revis/Sherman rivalry, just posing a question.

  22. sbmcintosh36 says: Feb 28, 2013 3:02 PM

  26. micknangold says: Feb 28, 2013 3:12 PM

There is no rivalry. Twitter smack talk isn’t a rivalry, it’s petty and annoying (when a player on your team is involved, otherwise it’s always pretty funny).

  27. danimal1027 says: Feb 28, 2013 3:12 PM

Steve Johnson, who by most likely the Sherman supporters on here is considered a number 2 wr on any other team, had 8 115 TD against him. How is he the best if he can’t even stop a number 2. Revis is the bar for CB’s. Sherman will become irrelevant soon enough.

  28. cosanostra71 says: Feb 28, 2013 3:13 PM

If he’s so irrelevant to you why do you keep talking about him? Especially when Revis has clearly moved on? Have a need to prove something?

  29. fumblenuts says: Feb 28, 2013 3:21 PM

  31. ijahru says: Feb 28, 2013 3:32 PM

When Sherman was suspended for drug use he appealed it. How come the league didn’t test him right away? How come the league in general doesn’t automatically retest players who appeal failed drug tests?
My point being I think Sherman got away with cheating on a technicality.

  35. kylexitron says: Feb 28, 2013 3:55 PM

I love how richard sherman says something harmless and all the girls get upset and talk about respect and trash talk.

Do you think Revis should be ‘relevant’ in Sherman’s mind, or vice-versa?

They play on the same side of the ball in two different conferences (right now) and will never line up against eachother, why would either of them be ‘relevant’ to eachother?

Jeremy Kerley led the game in receptions and yards (5 for 57).

  48. jacobgraff says: Feb 28, 2013 4:45 PM

A lot of people in here don’t really understand what Sherman means when he says Revis is irrelevant to him. Shermans refers to Revis and himself playing on the same side of the field, and therefor never facing eachother (therefor being irrelevant to him) – “I still wouldn’t get to play against him directly, so it really wouldn’t matter to me”

To the guys with their:”well, if he’s irrelevant, why do you keep talking about him??”, you do sound stupid. Sherman is being asked about Revis in every interview he has, of course he answers the questions about Revis.

  52. tokyosandblaster says: Feb 28, 2013 5:53 PM

Once again to all of you idiots on here calling Sherman out.! Please read!

He never called out Revis. He was simply asked to list his top CB’s and left Revis off that list. Specifically because Revis didn’t play this year and was hurt. SHERMAN wss asked why Revis wasn’t on the list, which he responded saying Revis would HAVE BEEN ON THAT LIST if he had played but he couldn’t rightfully put a player on that list who didn’t do anything this season.

So bc of your blind hatred of Sherman you let the facts skip you! He also said Jennings, browner, cromardie, and hayden were all the top CB’s with him but he could only pick 5! So he’d leave it Revis off the list. Also don’t forget he was a guest on the NFL network not some caller he was sitting their on the show!

By your comments apparently you wanted Peyton to win the MVP the year he didn’t play. We’re we all questioning Peyton when he was hurt? Was he on every list of top active QB’S? Noooooo he had to prove us wrong. But somehow In Shermans case that misses everyone. Lol

Not ever Pt or pass TD wad scored on Sherman he can’t cover everyone on every play. Don’t pick a couple plays A year and then add all success against the Seahawks defense to his resume you sound like an idiot. Anyone whose ever played a team sport knows you can have success by yourself or as a group but your team can give up points and TD’s and yards without you being involved. Yes he’s given up a TD here or there no less than anyone else. And again the facts show that.

Shermans stats from this last year have been overlooked nationally but was why he was an ALL PRO. HE literally just put up one of the best overall statistical years EVER BY A CB!!! EVER!!

Between passes defensed, deflected, Int’s, sacks, fumble recoveries, fumbles forced, tackles for loss, TD’s.. Stop with the numbers don’t mean anything. They dooo my friend! And not all of those stats are bc he was targeted unlike Revis bc that’s simply not true according to the stats!

The whole argument for why Revis doesn’t have good stats compared to Sherman is and was stupid they avg a difference of 4 targets per year!!!! So again why does Shermans stats kill revis’s but somehow not tell the story? Please explain bc they are being targeted the same amount but one doesn’t get the title bc he’s too new and the other has inferiors stats but because he’s well known he has all the credibility.

Just because you didn’t look at the facts or stats to know that doesn’t mean you can spew ignorance!

Also this was an interview they took pieces of to try and fuel the argument and get viewings. No problem with that but stop acting Like Shermans finding media outlets to talk crap bc he’s not. I recall Revis calling Sherman and Sherman throwing daggers while Revis used the equivalent of your ” dumb” card as a comeback.

Revis acted like a little girl and was all up in the media calling out coaches players and his own organization just before this situation, but bc Sherman was one who said something back he’s the jerk get out of here!

    Gain some perspective thanks people!

Doubt you even watched the game. Probably ESPN highlights. Sherman had 3 or 4 passes defensed that game and nothing was completed his way whether it was Jones/White. He got beat on a 50 yard bomb that Chancellor was completely out of position on (same as Bronco’s S versus Flacco) but from the game Sherm was rock solid- trust me. Oh yeah the dudes trying to question the talent Sherman plays..Considering Chad Henne-Cassell Fitzpatrick are far from world beaters when Revis was out there getting 4 picks total.
