Lions could have saved more by trading KVB when a sucker team was willing to pay us for the removal of a massive liability. I don’t see them as making cap improvements, but rather racking up massive dollars every year of blown opportunities. That’s not a savings, that’s a running increase of debt and obligation and risk to lose games in the future. We need to reposition away from these negatives and start creating some positives.
_____________

KVB , represented as a greatly depreciated asset along an accepted benefit vs. cost spectrum, exhibited lower anticipated productivity and diminished future performance to the corporation. Thus fully embodying an unfavorable debt to equity ratio, vis-à-vis on field contributions, KVB offered minimal trade value and therefore contractual termination was the most rational course of action. Sunk costs in the form of contractual salary obligations currently are, and have been, analyzed to the greatest extent possible as evidenced by the contract reformulations of Messrs. Burleson and Raiola.

Further analyses within a benefit vs. cost framework will undoubtedly exhibit additional opportunities in the form of contractual modifications and terminations which are anticipated to be implemented on a posthaste basis thereby affording a competitive ability to fully participate in the imminent free agent bidding process to the ultimate advantage of the enterprise.

To all you Chiefs fans that think you have the experience and football smarts to be a GM in the NFL, really you need to shut up. Name one QB in this years draft that is better than Alex Smith, and please all experts who think Geno Smith is the next RGIII get real. Did any of you actually watch Geno last year? It's easy to look awesome when you are beating up on the Appalachian States of college football, but when he was in the national spotlight in a high pressure game against K-State the dude looked like the second coming of Matt Cassell. This is who you think is going to lead the Chiefs to the playoffs in his first year? I think not. Dorsey and Reid got Alex Smith for a 2nd so you would rather have them spend the overall 1st pick on Geno Smith? Besides the Chiefs can still trade down their #1 pick for a lower 1st round pick and another pick. This years draft is loaded with really good big uglies so the Chiefs can still get the player they need and have a starter at QB that was just a dropped punt from taking his team to the Superbowl in 2012.

Hey strat chill man!! we would've gotten nothing by trading KVB. He's declining and getting old and cant play every down!! no one wants that! The Lions will and are making cap improvements. There's gonna be one guy (SUH) on that team we will have to let go when the contract is up. its gonna take alot of money to keep him on the team unless he's willing to take a pay cut but i don't see that happening with him. If he does take a pay cut its gonna be a HUGE relief for the lions!!

The Mallett article you link to sounds more like wishful thinking by a beat writer (or blogger) than what the Pats will think. Alex Smith has had success as a starter in the last two years. Mallett has played exactly zero meaningful snaps in the NFL. When have any former Pats backups moved on and had success? The Pats may be able to move Mallett, but the Smith trade does nothing to set that value. It is an apples/oranges comparison.
