The Jets had quarterback David Garrard in for a workout on Thursday as part of their search for a couple of additions to the quarterback pool.

Garrard spoke to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News after the workout and told him that it “went great.” Garrard also said that he was “still working out the particulars,” which makes it sound like he’s mulling an offer from the Jets to join the roster.

If the Jets could get the Garrard of 2007-2010, they’d have a clear upgrade over what they got from Mark Sanchez last season. If that Garrard were something that it was reasonable to expect, however, there’s not much chance that Garrard would be available for whatever the Jets are going to be able to pay new arrivals this season.

The Jets are planning to bring in two quarterbacks to go with Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms this offseason. Whether Garrard or Brady Quinn or both are part of that duo or not, the Jets will have a hard time guaranteeing themselves better play than they’ve been getting at quarterback.
