The Ravens have addressed reports that they have an agreement in place with quarterback Joe Flacco.
In a bizarre tweet from the team’s official account, the Ravens have declared that they “have an agreement in principle with QB Joe Flacco, via NFL source.” (Apparently, the Ravens spell Jay Glazer’s name s-o-u-r-c-e, too.)
We realize that the NFL has an ever-growing house band known as “NFL Media” that operates, sort of, as an independent entity. But most if not all teams don’t have their own “reporters.” And we can’t think of any other time that as a team has used its Twitter account, Facebook page, or official website to “report” information about itself.
The Ravens also “report” that the "[d]eal [is] not yet complete,” and that they "[a]nticipate agreement.”
There’s no agreement until there’s an agreement. There’s no agreement until the document is signed.
And there’s no reason to think that anything unusual will happen. Other than the fact that, you know, unusual things already are happening.
