Moss wishes 49ers “good luck in the future”

AP

Earlier Saturday, PFT’s Mike Florio, citing a league source, reported the 49ers had indicated they weren’t going to bring back Randy Moss in 2013.

On Saturday night, the veteran wide receiver took to Twitter and wished the Niners well.

“Wished we could’ve finished the job!!” wrote Moss, who has a verified Twitter account. “thanks for the opportunity an good luck in the future 9ers.”

Moss, 36, is slated to be an unrestricted free agent. He caught 28 passes for 434 yards and two touchdowns in 2012 for San Francisco after a year out of the league.

Moss’ legacy as one of the premier deep threats of all-time seems secure no matter where his football future goes from here. Should he test the free-agent market, he will be part of a fairly solid group of wide receivers led by Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker and Dwayne Bowe.

  1. They should have signed him and traded him to the Chiefs for their 2014 and 2015 second round picks

  2. An all-time great. Right behind Jerry Rice. If the price is right, someone will sign him as he’s a good teammate; can still stretch the field as a decoy; and is a good mentor to younger receivers.

  3. Last season is the last time the Niners will sniff the Super Bowl in the next 10 years. The NFC West belongs to the Seahawks.

Niners are overrated and the offense will be figured out next season. Russell Wilson is CLEARLY the better QB over Kaperlongneck. Pete is clearly a better coach than the crybaby.
And the fans in Seattle are C L E A R L Y better educated, classier, and not on home detention for the majority of the year

  4. Wish he would have came back and got to 1000 catches in a 49er uniform. He was a great mentor and leader in the locker room this year and his presence on the field kept defenses honest. I think his value was a bit more than what the statistics say. I wish him the best in the future as well, except when he faces SF.

  5. Was hoping Moss got a ring to make up for 2007 but the 49ers came just a bit short. Despite the hate Moss gets he was one of my favorite Patriots and he’s a surefire 1st ballot hall of famer.

  6. Wallace, Jennings, Welker, and Bowe? No, I think not. Moss is part of group that is led by Jabar Gaffney, Donte Stallworth, Braylon Edwards, and a bunch of other guys whose careers are over.

  7. imo moss is a sad story he had all the talent and ability anyone could ask for he could beat anyone and even 2 but he was never good enough to get out of his own way. just really sad when you think about what could have been. i’ll bet moss thinks about that now to bad he didn’t think about that back in the day

  8. Wish Moss wouldve told the media that he will retire after this season with the Niners and maybe they would have “RIGGED” the Super Bowl for him like they did for Ray Lewis.

  9. Nice mature comment iknoweverything. Seahawks enjoy 3rd place behind niners and rams next year!

And you are CLEARLY using bath salts. Pete has beat Jim ONCE ever. Which was Kaepernick’s 5th whopping start and a whole 6 days after the defense logged a ton of snaps but hey go ahead and hang you hat on that one single game for the next 10 years because by my account you couldn’t beat Atlanta when it mattered

  11. Wish he were still in his prime…… He would have been perfect to stretch the field for RG3. The Seachickens were a one year wonder to think otherwise is asinine. A healthy RG3 and the chickens don’t win that game, or had Shanahan pulled Griffin for Cousins. Shanahan will return the Skins to prominence.

  12. Good luck to you Mr. Moss. From reports all season long, it seems as Randy’s contributions off the field (mentoring and teaching) were greater than his on field contributions, and that’s ok. I’m glad he was on the team. Too bad Brandon Jacobs couldn’t learn from your example.

  13. Moss was very professional and positive locker room teammate, but production was just not there besides a few flashes of the “old moss” last season..Moss is 0-2 in super bowls and that’s a sign to say..”It’s not meant for him to retire as a champion” Moss need to hang up the pads and retire for good. Straight Cash Homie is done!

  14. Where are the 50+ people on here that said, in August, Moss was going to be a force for the 49ers?

  15. As a Seattle fan its nice to see fan support the team on these forums, but we need to tone it down a bit. We came in 2nd in the NFC West in the first winning season since mid 2000’s. We’re certainly on the way up, but all this domination talk is WAY too premature.

Lets cheer to get back to back winning seasons before we start talking that we “own” the West.

John Elway was 0-3 in Super Bowls before his back-to-back wins.

  17. Well Moss still has something to offer to a team. Who cares what he said at the Super Bowl. The fact that he was not happy the whole time yet never complained during the season is a good thing, not a bad thing. Anyone who watched the 49ers this year saw that he still draws coverages. He’s matured and has a positive influence on a team. You’ve got to be crazy to think someone won’t sign him.

  18. Randy Moss belongs with the Browns. No free agent worth anything would ever think of signing with the Brownstains.
T o think Paul Kruger or Dannell Ellerbe would EVER want to play at the dump near the “flats”.

    Now that’s really funny.

    Mary Kay Cabot….keep dreaming.

  19. I see “No Ring Randy” Moss rallied all of his Twitter fans to come here and support him.

  20. These Seattle fans are adorable. Their team strings together half a good season and suddenly they think they’re the next dynasty. Come back when you have at least one super bowl win.

It’s like the little brother that’s desperate to beat his big brother at anything but can’t quite get there.

  21. Would love to see Moss a Dolphin, along with Mike Wallace. Tanny Boy would develop nicely having some legit deep threats – he has nobody to fill that role right now.

  22. Now that the 49ers got rid of this loser they actually may win the SB. Made some nice money betting against SF because of Moss. He is a loser and not even top 25 all time when it comes to WRs
