Akers has been one of the best kickers in the league for many years. As an Eagles fan, I was said when they let him go. He is not your typical kicker. He is martial arts specialist, very tough and very relialbe. Class act on and off the field. Good luck David, whatever the future may hold for you. I know you will do well with whatever you decide to do. As an Eagle fan, thank you for so many great memories over the years.

If Billy “shankapotomus” Cundiff could get work with not one, but two teams last season, Akers finds a spot to play this year.

It makes total sense to draft a kicker with one of the fifteen draft slots available. The rookie wage for your 15th draft pick has to be in the range of $2.15/hour plus all the Gatorade you can drink.

44-52 sure seems like a great year to me in 2011. 85%. Hope he can bounce back somewhere. Classy guy.

Ridiculous how many fans have amnesia. Akers had offseason surgery on his groin that affected him most of this season. The season prior to this one, he WAS the offense for the Niners. Between that defense and Akers’s foot, the Niners wound up 13-3 somehow. It certainly wasn’t due to a prolific offense. Drives would routinely stall due to Alex throw a pass in the dirt or eating the ball and taking a sack. Akers was automatic. So on behalf of real 49er fans, I’d like to join Baalke in thanking Akers for his contributions to the team and helping us to have 2 memorable (but regretfully painful in the end) playoff runs.

as long as he does not have any real serious injury and still wants to play he will be a starting kicker in the NFL next year. that would be my bet. and he could have a good year. set a record two years ago.

Should use a draft pick and hope for gold like Legatron, who the Rams drafted last year!

Too many recycled kickers in the league lets use some new fresh talent…. Can always sign a kicker at any time if things don’t work out

Classy guy.. but … Thank goodness he is gone!!! geeez.. ppl try to give him credit for scoring those 44 FG’s in 2011… but they dont look at the numbers and see that he missed like 10 fg’s that year too..not noticed becuase none of them cost us any W’s like this past season against he Rams.. any decent kickers wouldve gotten that record had they had 55 tries to make FG’s and most of them from under 40 yards
