No tampering with Ed Reed this weekend, since he lacks agent

Almost all of the players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents can start gauging their value at midnight Saturday, when the league’s first legal tampering window opens.

But not all of them.

As Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe points out in the rules for the tampering window, contact can only be between teams and agents, and players can’t have any visits with teams.

That gives the Ravens an extra three days (or actually 87 hours) to negotiate exclusively with safety Ed Reed, since he doesn’t have an agent.

Reed, who represents himself (thus saving 3 percent), said earlier this week he hadn’t heard from the Ravens but couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.

And until 4 p.m. Tuesday, he can’t hear from anyone else about the prospect, at least according to the letter of the law.
