Not only am I baffled at how he got hired by the Redskins … I’m still trying to figure out how Smith got hired by San Diego.

But, actually, Snyder and Smith actually have a lot in common. They both set their franchises back a decade by firing Marty Schottenheimer.

I can’t imagine a worse move by the Redskins. I know AJ’s son works for the Redskins but to bring in AJ Smith when they’re on the upswing is crazy. First thing he will want to do is cut the long time vet Redskins for younger wannabe’s. He’ll want to replace Shanahan with his guy. This is a major mistake by the Redskins.

how can he replace shanahan? with what power? he isn’t the owner or the GM, he’s a glorified scout, when will you people understand their is a HUGE difference between the two positions.

similarly, Norv Turner won superbowls as a OC for the cowboys, sucked as a head coach, but he would be valued as an OC because that’s what he’s truly good at.

AJ is great at finding talent, how is that a negative? they are going to use that talent

Yes I agree Aj smith is one of if not the worst GM in sports. He single handedly ruined the chargers. He ran Tomlinson out of San Diego and insulted him in the process. Tomlinson was one if the best RB’s in NFL at the time and deserved better treatment from smith. If nfl fans think Scott Pioli has an ego smith is far worse. Really bad move for skins and I would pay big money to see mike shanahan knock this fool out cold

this is a great move for Washington, some of you fools would like to think this is going to destroy the skins in some fashion but that’s just dumb.

he knows talent, he may be a jerk who didn’t want to pay players, but he’s not in that position anymore, his scouting skills will be useful.

I agree. Keep this guy away from your team. His skills as a GM aside, he has an unfathomable ego. Never will forgive him for the way he ran LaDainian out of town and mocked him in interviews. This guy is a child.

While, in general, Washington fans want guys like Smith as far away from the franchise as possible; bringing the guy on in an advisory-only capacity can’t be that bad. He has no executive power over the team, he’s essentially a glorified scout: and remember that however terrible he is as a GM and team-builder, he did find Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Antonio Cromartie (when he was good).

I’d have no problem with that. As much as I love Haslett for making lemons out of lemonade, Romeo Crennel is one of the best 3-4 D Coordinators out there.

I’m thinking this is a bad move….Hopefully it doesn’t turn out that I’m right.
Mostly my feelings are based on the chemistry they seem to be building, and I don’t want to see any other guys coming in disrupting the flow, or sabotaging.
A guy like him could develop a rapport with Snyder, only to undermine Allen in a year or so trying to take over…..Ahhh, the controversy, the plotting and scheming…..I love watching, but I’d rather watch bad things happen to some other team.

This is hands down the most arrogant man in football. And yes I know that says a lot.

He made some good selections early on with help and teachings from the late Jim Butler (R.I.P) but after that he couldn’t get passed his own ego and continually outsmarted himself but passing on the sure thing and trying to find a “Gem” that no one has heard of with that First round pick.

We got names like Devin Hester, Larry English (Bust), Sammy Davis (Bust), Antoine Cason (Bust) and Craig Davis (Bust)… while names like Troy Palumalu, A.J Hawk, Clay Matthews, Steve Smith, Ray Rice Among others went to other teams.
