If, and I repeat it's a big IF we wind up with Revis the one comfort we can take is that "due diligence" to the max was done - every subtle and not so subtle bit was viewed under a huge microscope.

I'm having real trouble seeing the Niners making the move.

Gold son is the best option out there besides Ed reed... And I think he is more value to our team then if someone like that came in.. He is part if our nucleus and is flat out pretty good! But I think he's going to chase the money... I really hope we trade for Revis.. We need a true lockdown corner!! Except his contract would be a mess.. Damn to many possibilities can't wait til the draft

They aren't going to tender McBath which leads me to believe that they think they can resign Goldson or are willing to replace him with one of the few decent Free Safeties on the market. The only options that seem appealing to me are Chris Clemons of the Dolphins and Kenny Phillips of the Gmen, who can't seem to string together 8 straight games let alone a whole season. Goldson is better than both though, but probably not worth the cake a team like the Bucs will throw at him.

Alternatively they could draft a Free Safety with a top pick and sign Ed Reed to bridge to that pick, but I think Reed wants to get paid. He is 34 though and might find it hard to get paid. I suppose they could sign another FA safety I haven't mentioned to bridge to that pick (unless they are willing to start a rookie), but they exposing their secondary to further coverage breakdowns if they do this.

Basically, I really hope they find a way to resign Goldson. Maybe the market won't be as strong for his services as he thinks (it wasn't the last 2 years). I still want them to find a true "fly" safety, but that player doesn't seem available at the moment. Goldson covers better than Phillips and Clemons from what I can tell.
