Harrison talks with Steelers getting nowhere fast

James Harrison AP

James Harrison apparently wants to be a Steeler.

The Steelers might like that too, but not at his current salary.

The difference between those two positions might make Harrison a former Steeler soon.

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, negotiations on a restructured deal haven’t gotten anywhere, increasing the odds the linebacker could be released.

Harrison’s scheduled to make $6.57 million this year, and $7.575 million next year. But the Steelers want to pay the 34-year-old less than that.

“We absolutely want to do this, we absolutely want to be in Pittsburgh,” agent Bill Parise said, but didn’t comment further.

After drawing a line in the sand earlier by saying he didn’t think Harrison should have to take a pay cut, there’s not that much more for him to say.

Bye Jimmy, I am a tough guy with my helmet on to cheap shot opponents, I stopped taking PED’s and can not stay healthy, senior citizen, Harrison. Obviously, your going to find out if as your agent said that 31 other teams are going to bank roll your for what you think your still worth. My Steelers will be better off replacing you and going younger sooner then later.

  3. modellforprez says: Mar 7, 2013 6:11 PM

as much as he has done for this team city and all this world and especially that cutthroat nfl is a what have you done for me lately business and while i fully believe he will bounce back and have one more big year but im not steel management to say. so i say keep him let him play one more year to you get a replacment as Jason worilds and Chris Carter are NOT long term answers. I know this would never happen but if i were colbert i would clean house hampton foote keisel now and go get a productive pigeon named Uncle Paully Kruger yeaaaah budddy and i know kruger would never sign in PGH even for a hundred milli but we need LB’s to get after the Q.B

  4. Nofoolnodrool says: Mar 7, 2013 6:13 PM

Typical steeler vet situation . Harrison is bluffing but the steelers aren’t. If he really wants to retire as a member of the best franchise in the NFL with not just two SB , but six big ones, he will change his demands if not time to find a replacement.
It’s not pathetic, a sign of a bad front office blah blah ravenator it is just the six Lombardi winning steeler way. Learn from it fan boy

    Good riddance wife beater.

  6. jeffa43 says: Mar 7, 2013 6:17 PM

The simple fact is that even if he takes a paycut, it will be more than he gets if he tests the market.

  7. Iknoweverything says: Mar 7, 2013 6:17 PM

Harrison will need 10 million a year to afford all his PEDs and fine money for dirty hits

  8. jayhit says: Mar 7, 2013 6:20 PM

Hope to see Harrison back on the field that interception runback for a TD in the Superbowl against the Cardinals before the half was amazing!! Great memories

If the steeler fans worshipped a player like Lewis or Suggs that would be embarrassing. Raven history is too short for you to have any perspective. You are too young to have any sense period as your post reveal.

Harrison here or gone will not effect a 10-6 season. Another split with those ped Ravens.

  14. ronpipes2013 says: Mar 7, 2013 6:40 PM

Ravenator, you crack me up, but until the Ravens when at least 6 big ones………………..

  15. shotgunformation5wide says: Mar 7, 2013 6:41 PM

Technically, he shouldn’t have to …. it should be Colon that gets cut (No pun intended).

  16. zclor says: Mar 7, 2013 6:41 PM

Mean James Harrison in NE with Ed Reed would straighten that defense out

  17. stainlessstill says: Mar 7, 2013 6:48 PM

ravenator, you are the walking definition of false hope. You were 29 yards and one healthy Roethlisberger away from 8-8 yourselves so don’t get your false hopes up with the Steelers tanking. This Super Bowl victory may have put the blinders on your face, but the Ravens are going to look totally different themselves as well and are losing the GLUE that held your run together. Worry about your team before ours, do yourself a favor and realize the Ravens can tank as hard as the Steelers could ever dream to think of.

  18. lovefootball4life says: Mar 7, 2013 6:50 PM

Funny to see the Steeler fans turning their back on Harrison as fast as they threw the former beloved Ward under the bus for talking about leadership. With fans like Nofool representing the fan base I can see why, I guess.

  19. blindmansaidwhat says: Mar 7, 2013 6:55 PM

Get the tissues out Ravenator when Reed and company go to greener pastures! Maybe you can trade for Willis McGehee again.

  22. rottenbellybutton says: Mar 7, 2013 7:01 PM

ravenator owns the feeble minded yinzers. If he/she is ignorant when it comes to football, why do yinz respond? Guess the truth always hits a nerve and it tends to hurt no matter how much you try to deny it. Nofool, is this what vets do with their life when society don’t want them anymore?

  23. blackngold4life says: Mar 7, 2013 7:05 PM

What contender would sign Harrison besides the Steelers for 6mill? Yeah he could go to Arizona..Cleveland ..Miami. That’s fine if he just wants $ He’s lucky we just don’t move on without him. I love Silverback but he needs to work with us..stay healthy and maybe he gets thru 2014 also and retires where he should

  24. ravens4lifeudig says: Mar 7, 2013 7:12 PM

You steeler fans suck. Why talk about 6 rings when the steelers have been around since the 60s come do the math 6 Super Bowls wowwww….. Look at a team like LAL or Celtics +15 championships each since the 60s that’s winning clowns. Now a team like the Ravens who been around since 1996 has the same amount of trophys as the queerlers in the time period

  25. Deb says: Mar 7, 2013 7:15 PM

It’s still early in the negotiating process. After watching Farrior and Ward leave last season, Harrison and Parise should fully understand that the Steelers will cut him if no deal is reached. And since he’ll be 35 when the season starts, he’s unlikely to have any takers–certainly not any who’ll pay more than the Steelers for an aging flag-magnet with injuries. If James wants another season in the league, his best chance is to work out a reasonable deal with Colbert.

Hope he puts his ego aside and gets it done because I think he can still contribute and would like to keep his veteran presence in the locker room for another year.

Please know that I am a part of the Steelers fanbase but drooling fool in no way represents me…
There are STEELERS fans, those who have a sincere interest in the entire TEAM and organization; then there are Roethlisberger fans, those who know what he eats for breakfast and his bathroom habits (no pun intended) but know nothing about the game of football.
    Sad.

  27. stainlessstill says: Mar 7, 2013 7:27 PM

rottenbellybutton, this is just simply what we do. The Steelers/Ravens rivalry was built over the years and has turned into one of the best rivalry in the modern era (how ironic it was the BROWNS before Baltimore, am I right?) we are going to bicker and banter with each other. It’s what makes it fun. If you’re simply here to actually think somebody can “own” the Steelers fanbase than by all means, carry on! (Hint: it can’t happen.)

  28. whodey13 says: Mar 7, 2013 7:28 PM

Thats the problem when you keep restructuring deals and pushing money back. The Steelers think you forget that all that money was pushed back and the player thinks that was part of the deal. They play for a little less in their prime and expect to get the rest when they are past it

  29. stainlessstill says: Mar 7, 2013 7:36 PM

DOLT ALERT. Seriously dude, do you have any intelligence whatsoever? First off, the Steelers founding father, Art Rooney SR, worked his TAIL off in the golden age of football so the NFL could actually even EXIST so right there tells you to show some respect.

Second, you DO know the league is measured by SUPER BOWLS and not Celtics NBS Championships, right? I mean, the AFL/NFL merger happened for a reason and things got TOUGH and the game of football CHANGED into the new century once the Free Agent period in football hit.

The Steelers have been the most successful franchise in the FA era and are leauge leading in Super Bowl Championships and appearances. The Ravens are the old Browns! Baltimore inherited that team in Cleveland so don’t act like Baltimore was a franchise that was God-like since 1996. They were inherited into a league and just modeled EVERYTHING they did off the Pittsburgh Steelers!

    You’re welcome.

Oh, and the Steelers were formed in 1933, the Golden Age of football (not in the 60′s) when it was in its INFANCY and we were BUILT within the league in eras. Pretty impressive. Your precious Baltimore Ravens came into an already established league and just went off OUR blueprint.

    Again, your welcome.

  32. nofoolsnodrool says: Mar 7, 2013 7:59 PM

How exactly does adding 30 years bolster your case? All it does is remind people that the franchise went 30 years without doing a damn thing, and then 30 years again before being relevant. At that rate you’ll need to cling with an even tighter death grip to the six rings argument if your egos are gonna make it to the 2040s in tact.

Tomlin gets a SB cuz Cowher gift wrapped him a championship team but now he can’t keep the locker room together. Keep thinking you have a great franchise. ravens fans. …youre franchise was born at the height of the NFLs popularity. with multi million dollar player contracts, endorsment deals, tv deals and sponsors. the steelers played in an era for decades where the players football career was a sidejob. they worked in the steel mill during the week and started at RB on sundays. that s how it was for the first 20 years of the steelers franchise. so dont even try to compare your 2 SBs in 17 years to the steelers 6 in 80 especially since the super bowl wasnt even around until 1965! so if you really want to do the math the ravens avg a SB every 8.5 years….the steelers avg one every 7.8

    ——————-

Really? You’re seriously going to throw EVERYTHING the Steelers ever achieved within their franchise just because they didn’t come out of the gates swinging and winning championships when they arrived on the scene? You’re seriously going to hold it against the Steelers that they couldn’t win when Horse and Buggies rolled the Earth and the league needing to join forces with other teams during the WWII era because there weren’t enough players in the league to keep football going? Seriously? The first NFL champion ever created was the Akron Pros in 1920 and even the Green Bay Packers, who have a 14 year head start to playing football than the Steelers, even hit a dry sprout in their franchise. Are you going to hold that against them as well?

Totally ridiculous argument. Even in their WORSTS of times, the Steelers STILL managed to pop out Hall of Famers WAY before the Super Bowl era like Bill Dudley, Bobby Layne and Ernie Stautner. Check yourself.

Every Steelers news I read there is some “Ravenator” trolling around. The fact that Ravens fans are so concerned about Harrison and take so much time out of their day to troll Steelers posts says a lot. I mean they don’t even post and leave… they lurk around all day on the same posts so they can reply to every single person. It says that Ravens fans are very concerned their 15 minutes of fame will be over soon. It says the Ravens fans are pathetic and don’t have much better to do with their time. Hopefully they remember this post when they’re cutting loose talent because cool Joe makes more money than Manning and Brady. Tomlin and Colbert are two of the most respected people in the NFL. The Harbaugh brothers are known around the league for being jerks. But when your measure of character is a line backer that is a psychopath and murder what can we all expect? They don’t hold the bar high in Baltimore. (Now watch the Raven troll says… well Ben did this… Harrison did that… wha wha wha)

The Ravens will never compare to the steelers (even with their lucky streak this year). Steelers=Big Brother, Ravens=Little brother. Always have and always will be that a way. I agree with gsr27, In the eyes of some ravens fans, they will never be able to get over that Troy Polamalu pick in the AFC Championship in 09 and divisional lost in Jan 2011.
