Teams can start talking to free agents currently on other teams on Saturday, but players that have already been released are free to sign with teams at any point.

We’ve seen safety George Wilson do that and heard about visits to teams from other players who have been cut loose, but haven’t heard much from safety Charles Woodson since his fruitful tenure with the Packers came to an end. Woodson has indicated a desire to continue playing and his agent says that several teams have expressed interest in having the veteran join them for the 2013 season.

“I talked to Charles Woodson yesterday and we’re discussing possible upcoming visits. There are a number of teams that have expressed interest in him. He is still interested in playing for a contender,” Carl Poston said to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Anderson identifies, via NFL sources rather than Poston, the Seahawks, Dolphins, Jets and Giants as being among the teams that have put in calls on Woodson. The Seahawks were the only one of that group that qualified as a contender in 2012, but playing a lot might not be in the cards on a Seattle team that’s well-stocked at safety with Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. That might not be a deal-breaker if being in the mix for a trip to the Super Bowl is of paramount interest to Woodson.

We should get a better idea of where Woodson might be headed when he starts taking those visits.
