Getty ImagesLast year, the Titans were planning to make a play for former Texans defensive end Mario Williams. The failure of quarterback Peyton Manning to make a timely decision regarding his next team, however, kept the Titans on the sidelines long enough to let the Bills finish the deal.
This year, the Titans are believed to be plotting another run at a high-end pass-rusher.
When the legal tampering period opens on Saturday, look for the Titans to pursue negotiations with one or more of the top defensive ends, from Osi Umenyiora to Dwight Freeney to John Abraham.
And if they want to spend a whole lot of money, they could try to woo Cliff Avril.
Abraham is the most intriguing of that group. Cut last week by the Falcons, he’s already a free agent. Last year, the Titans were in the mix to sign him, before he opted to return to Atlanta.
This year, he could be the fallback option is the Titans don’t get one of the names higher on their wish list.

Albert Haynesworth is available I think
Mike Florio is the best thing that ever happened to Cliff Avril. He will not get as much money as people seem to think he will. He is a one trick pony, that being a speed rush, who did very little with constant one-on-ones in Detroit.
This is S.O.P for the Titans. Every Free Agency period “Titans look for big name pass rusher”
Maybe they should focus on building the team through the draft.
If it is legal how can it be tampering? Just saying…
You can make a play for Anthony Spencer! It will only require a 2nd round pick
We’ve heard talk from the Titans before. Last year they gave a new contract to Griffin.
My grandmother could put a better team on the field than the idiots in the Titans organization.
Why do you think the Steelers have not had playoff success recently? It is pretty obvious we have been infiltrated by league saboteurs. We will win the Super Bowl next year despite this obstacle. Wow, we are amazing.
What happened to Kamerion Wimbley?!LOL

TEN has notably had some of the best d-line drafting / development for the last decade, especially when Jim Washburn was still around.
Starting with Jevon Kearse, TEN has had plenty of guys they drafted perform well, many who have gone elsewhere for big $ and busted (Haynesworth, Antwan Odom, Travis Laboy, Jason Jones, etc) and others do reasonably well (Kearse, Randy Starks).
Avril for the right price may be a good deal, but winning teams build through the draft and good (emphasis on good) FA signings. Not the draft alone
Same thing every year… Didn’t they overpay for a pass rusher last year?
Vikings could be induced to let them have Jared Allen.
Memo to John Dorsey: Call the Titans. They might trade for Tamba Hali.
Why not sign Paul Kruger to a sweetheart deal…all he WANTS is $10 million a year.
Of course the Titans also have Haloti Ngata and Terrell Suggs getting double teamed on every play….right????
I thought they were looking for an identity!
So are we
Signed,
Everyone
Man, am I glad Osi is out of the NFCE. He is a quality player. Im glad the Giants cant afford him.
I wonder how much they are willing to pay for somewhere between 5 to 7 sacks next year…because that is all any of these guys are going to get…
If I were them I’d be looking for someone to block pass rushers before Locker is concussed out of a career.
If Doom doesn’t want to take a pay cut in DEN they could probably work out a trade there. I would hate to see Doom leave Denver, but the reality is the bill for Manning is due and other guys are going to have to get cheaper or move on. I hope Doom takes the cut and stays in Denver. Cause Von-Doom was looking awesome last year.
They brought in Kam Wimbley last offseason, seems like something they do every year.
You may have to add Elvis Dumervil to this list if the take a pay cut or get cut rumors reported on PFT.
I thought they got an all pro pass rusher when they signed kam wimbley last year….guess the raiders weren’t so wrong to let that bum go!!! GO RAIDERS!!!!

This has nothing to do with Peytons salary. It’s due to the fact that he is paid top 3 money from the previous regime and has not had “stellar” years since. Good but not great. And 6sense, no way he gets cut. That’s just plain stupid talk. In the end they’ll likely restructure like everyone else does. These media clowns have to stir the pot while they write something between reading the tabloids to keep track of the Kardashians.
Trade for Tamba Hali, he’s on the market.. Chiefs could draft Jones
so, the Titans want Mike Wallace, Andy LeVitre, and a big name pass rusher. yeah. so does everyone
ANTHONY SPENCER…swap each others 1st round picks, and Cowboys get additional 3rd rounder
I wouldn’t put it past Bud Adams to make a huge splurge, I mean, he’s never won a Super Bowl and the window on his life is closing fast.
I think Jeff Fisher got WAY less credit than he deserved in Nashville. People liked to call him .500 Fisher, but it seems he got way more out of his mediocre talent than Munchak has, and it seems he’s gotten much more out of the Rams as well.
People need to put the Titans mediocrity where it belongs, on the GM and Owner.
IMHO, The Titans will try for Umenyiora and Freeney, but will end up with Abraham, only because Abraham is likely done.
Hopefully going after a free agent DE means they’ll draft Warmack in the first round.
