Brandon Moore having “surprisingly” little contact with Jets

Brandon Moore has been a constant presence in the New York Jets starting lineup for the better part of the last decade. But when free agency begins next Tuesday, it appears more than likely Moore will be looking for a new place to call home for the first time in his NFL career.

Moore said in an interview with Alex Marvez and Solomon Wilcots on Sirius Radio Thursday he has had “surprisingly” little contact with the Jets about a new contract. Moore has spent his entire 10-year career with the Jets. Moore has started 142 of 144 games at guard for New York and has started 137 consecutive games. He was released by the Jets in 2009 but re-signed the next day to a new contract.

It will likely be the first time he’s had to search for a new place to play.

“You know you’ll be a free agent and you’ll go to the right situation so you’re definitely a little anxious, a little nervous but definitely a lot of excitement looking forward to it,” Moore said.

Moore said the only thing he’s really going to look for in free agency is going to a team that has a chance to win the Super Bowl.

“Just being in a position where, you know, I’ve played a little while now and I’ve been in some big games and played in a lot of big games, at this stage of my career I’m looking to really be with a team that’s on the cusp of a championship,” Moore said. “A team that’s really a piece there, a piece there from really vying for a championship.”

Despite being a long-time starter in the league, Moore may be best known for being on the receiving end of Mark Sanchez’s “butt fumble” last Thanksgiving. Moore is ranked No. 97 on our list of the top 100 free agents this offseason.

Very solid veteran. Never heard his name called for penalties and was a solid player. Its a shame the Jets can’t keep a line together.

I dount many ‘contending’ teams are going to be hugely interested in a Jesters castoff.

“Surprisingly little contact” with the Jets. That’s a good thing, right?

I would be excited too to get out of that train wreck of an organization.

C’mon Jets, you’ve got to re-sign Sanchez’ favorite target!

I dont think Moore gets it… There isn’t any contact because YOU SUCK & ARE OLD!!! Nobody’s bending over backwards to get in contact with Brandon Moore.

Moore is a declining player. Slauson would be a better re-sign. I love Brandon going back to his time in NFL Europe with the Claymores, but he is in the home stretch of his career now.
