Dannell Ellerbe, Ravens still talking with free agency approaching

Barring an announcement of a new deal between now and midnight, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe figures to be fielding a lot of calls from around the league on Saturday.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens are planning a “significant offer” in hopes of locking up Ellerbe before Tuesday, when he would be eligible to sign with another team. The two sides have been talking and Ellerbe professed hope that he remains in Baltimore.

“There’s always a chance, and that’s what I’m hoping will happen,” Ellerbe said. “The Ravens are a perfect situation for me. Hopefully, it’s a perfect situation for me to sign on the dotted line.”

Unless a deal is struck before Saturday, the Ravens and Ellerbe will have clear ideas of what the other side thinks is a fair deal entering the three-day negotiating period. The presence of 31 other teams would provide a pretty quick answer as to whether Baltimore or Ellerbe has a correct read on the market. If it’s Ellerbe, the chances of his departure would force the Ravens to decide how far they’d go to hold onto a member of their starting defense.

Nail in the coffin if they lose Ellerbe.

It would be a total upset if Ellerbe left Baltimore.

He’s been groomed to take Ray Lewis’ spot over the last 2 1/2 years.

i’m hoping they sign him, but can’t help feeling uncomfortable that he only broke out in contract year… and the injuries-proneness…

still, hope they sign him, just don’t go crazy on him….

Without James Harrison….a one legged Polamalu…a fat and out of shape Lamarr woodley…and no Casey Hampton…put a nail in the Steelers coffin. The AFC North title will remain Baltimore for Year and Years.

OH…and the Steelers have NO running backs or Mike Wallace….

    That’s a BIG COFFIN.

I know right! Cause it’s not like the Ravens have produced undrafted/late round draft LB’s for the last 17 years. If we lose Ellerbe(which we won’t) it would kill us worse than the loss of Bart Scott and Adalius Thomas combined! Not to mention losing Jarrett Johnson obviously set us back 5 years. Idiot.

at this point why wouldnt he just wait and see what other teams would offer? unless he already knows…

Pretty sure that by now he has a good idea what other teams will pay.

ellerbe wants to stay and the ravens want to keep him. hopefully this deal gets done. and as far as nail in the coffin….you may want to keep an eye on whats going on with your team…they got issues. the champs will be just fine

Raven for life! He will be signed before midnight tonight!

Hope Ravens sign him, but if not, they’ll survive. Last year it was J. Johnson. Ravens won the SB. I feel for JJ. He deserved that SB, but it’s a business and players follow the money.

stay tuned folks, here comes the 7-9 SB hangover…

Fellow Ravens fans, did the team state they will move Ellerbe from the weak side to the mike, Lewis’ old spot?

I think the reason he is so critical to keep is because Kruger is almost guaranteed to leave.

Still think we need to develop a very strong middle LB for this division. Ellerbe might be good staying in the will.

But they STILL have Charlie Batch and he was enough to beat our Ravens….time to drag you back down to reality.

how about your reality of 8 and 8 last year and the ravens winning the super bowl. nice that batch winning was your season highlight. i remember when raven fans were made fun of for bragging about regular season victories. my how times have changed

  17. eflem80 says: Mar 8, 2013 2:46 PM

Keep him…lose him. Honestly I don’t think it matters. They have the best GM in the league. He’ll find another unknown beast in the draft just like he does every year. Outside of Baltimore…who knew even who Danelle Ellerbe was just 2 years ago???

  18. ravenator says: Mar 8, 2013 2:51 PM

Ravens front office is the best in the league – simply amazing!

Ravens will sign Ellerbe, hate on haters.

Read the threads scoobie you’ll see you and your team has taken over from us as the most obnoxious team and fan base. It’s not just me that laughs at the ravens regardless of your record,or our record.
