As a Texans fan, I am disappointed that John Abraham has not visited Houston yet. I think he and Richard Seymour would be two good veteran pass rushers that would help the defense.
Unfortunately, I guess the idea of playing for Gary Kubiak and having Matt Schaub as your quarterback is not so attractive. The two biggest problem in Houston remain the biggest problems in Houston.
If only Rick Smith would not have given those extensions to Kubiak and Schaub last season, then the Texans could have hired a real head and gotten a real playcaller who does not read the same 20 plays off a Denny's menu every week.
Given the weakness of the free agent QB class of 2013 plus a draft with no immediate starter in Week 1 of 2013 means Matt Schaub could have been the #1 QB option for Arizona, Buffalo, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, or Kansas City before the Alex Smith trade. Given that Alex Smith was worth two 2nd round picks and Carson Palmer was once traded for two 1st round picks means Schaub would have some a lot of value under the non-exclusive franchise tender.
Now, the Texans will cut Schaub in two more years after they have spent 82 million dollars to find out he is not a franchise quarterback. Honestly, I knew that 35 million dollars ago.

they probably wouldn't bother to convert him to an OLB in the base 3-4 defense. They'd probably use him as a pass rusher in their Nickel and Dime packages which they use more than half the time anyway. They use a 4 man line in those situational packages so Abraham would just need to be a pass rushing defensive end like he's always played.

One of the problems the Niners have is that they don't rotate their front seven in various personnel packages other than the Nose Tackle. It may have lead to wearing out their Defensive Line by the end of the season.

The big question is weather Abraham would be okay with being a situational pass rusher (thought he'd still get more snaps than the Nose Tackle in the base 3-4 defense).

The 49ers probably just scheduled a visit knowing that Seattle wants Abraham and to try to get the Seahawks to offer a higher contract than Abe is worth in fear of their division rival signing him. Pretty smart if that's the case.
