Chiefs no longer interested in Sean Smith

With the league’s heavy-handed, contradictory memo scaring teams silent overnight, there’s still no barrier on making it known that a team isn’t interested in a given player.

The Chiefs, after signing cornerback Dunta Robinson, no longer have interest in Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith, per a league source.

Robinson is believed to be getting starter money from the Chiefs.  With Brandon Flower doing the same, paying Smith top-of-market money no longer makes sense.

Kansas City’s interest in Smith was one of the few nuggets of information that emerged after the legal non-tampering tampering period opened at midnight.

If, of course, Smith overplays his hand and doesn’t do a deal before the market softens, the Chiefs potentially could become interested again — at a lower rate.

  1. Dude isn’t going to get nearly what he thinks he is. Lucky to break 6 a year with 12 guaranteed and that’s still pushing it.

Hard to spend that kind of money on just potential.

  2. Smith wanted more money than KC was willing to pay him. Mr. Reid and Mr. Dorsey quickly axed conversations with this ungrateful person. Smith should have been appreciative that a dynasty team in the making was thinking about signing him. He should have begged to play for the mighty Chiefs.
Instead he was tossed aside like a used, and no longer needed girlfriend.

Hopefully all the other free agents have taken notice and do not make the same mistake

  3. I love it when reporters have no facts to report, they just start making assumptions.
Waste of time, check back Tuesday sports fans!

  4. Any team that gives Sean Smith big money, that teams fans should revolt against that GM. Smith can only play man coverage against big receivers. He can’t cover smaller, faster receivers, can’t play zone, doesn’t play the run well, has hands of stone. Can’t pay #1 corner money to a player with 5picks in 4 years. Doesn’t make plays.

  5. Chiefs fans certainly have good reason to feel like a “dynasty” is starting. After all, look at all the Super Bowls Andy Reid has won!! Oh wait…

If there weren’t false reports, there’d be little for NFL media guys to “report” on in the offseason.

Yeah the NFL off season is a ridiculous 7 months long. These NFL writers have to think of something to write about.

  7. Just like the Chiefs were definitely taking Joeckel, then not taking Joeckel and now definitely taking Joeckel again, right? I guess if you guys heave enough dung at the wall eventually something will stick.

The chiefs expressed interest in my ball sack… Print it blogger guy….

    *******************************

That would be a pretty small story to print

  9. As a Dolphin fan I can tell you, Smith sucks. Don’t see why any team would want him. He dropped a million interceptions in 2011, can’t tackle or hit and gets roasted too often. Just a lanky beanpole at cornerback who can’t run with quicker receivers.

    The mighty Chiefs?

A dynasty team in the making??

Dude- back off the pipe, crack kills….

Your not really paying attention. PFT is reporting. Everyone else has been mocking Joeckel to KC and reacting to every little move. Kill the messenger why dont you!!!!!!!

Dude, hate to break this to a guy who “knows everything” but Alex Smith was just traded FROM the dynasty in the making not TO the dynasty in the making. no dynasty in the modern era got there with a game manager let alone a one and done I know Andy Reid has shined a few turds under center in his days, but weve seen Smith’s ceiling, and unless he plans to make something out of a guy like Geno Smith, i have to close with, get a QB then come at the league.

  13. Denver’s best dB is champ bailey, and he stopped being good 2 years ago. Chump wouldn’t start on any team other than Denver. Denver got what they could out of Peyton, of course the sell out for 1 player got them to the playoffs. Of course so did Tebow, and he won. Losers.
