Giants still trying to get deal done with Martellus Bennett

Martellus Bennett has one season as the Giants’ starting tight end under his belt. It’s still possible that he’ll get another.

The New York Daily News reports that the Giants are making a late push to re-sign Bennett before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday afternoon. Bennett’s agent confirmed that he’s talking to the Giants but declined to say whether any other teams have reached out.

I am and will continue communicating with the Giants,” Bennett’s agent, Kennard McGuire, wrote in an email to the Daily News on Saturday. “Martellus is still in New York, and we are taking it one day at a time.”

The Giants have made clear that they want to keep Bennett, but it’s not clear whether they’re going to come up with the kind of money it will take to get a deal done before Tuesday.

Bennett is the No. 21 player in our list of the NFL’s top free agents.

The Giants are just two easy wins in RedskinsNation.

They dont need him, they need a defense…but im sure Bennett will land elsewhere because the free agent TE market is paltry at best.

For the right money, I’d be very happy to see him come back. He was a very nice surprise last season

This guy would be an excellent compliment to Jermaine Gresham and Orson Charles

Would love to have a tight end on the Giants to last more than a few years. Guy’s got talent.

Eli makes him good. A new team would likely cut him after year two so he would be smart to stay.

How many rings do you have again? Jealous?

dallas is just mad because witten looks old and the unicorn looks like a productive TE for the next few years.

A lot of sites have Bennett in the top 5 FA TE.

    Eli made him good.
1 semi good year in his career doesnt make him worth much.

Eli made him good? I love Eli just as much as any other Giants fan, but explain to me how Eli made him look good at blocking, catching and physically dominating opposing back fields?

Tony Romo is a great quarterback, and he could have equally made Bennett “look good” had the Unicorn been on the field! Last I checked Witten is the starting TE there.

Did Bennett perform better in New York, relative to what we DID get to see of him in Dallas? Abso-lutely. But maybe that confidence also had something to do with the influence of TE coach Mike Pope, who many revere as one of the best in the business.

There are a lot of factors that have contributed to Marty B’s success in NYC, but it’s pretty disrespectful to say that he had nothing to do with it. Looking for other reasons besides his talent and resurgence.

Wacky dude, great player. I hope he’s a Giant for a while.

Boss, Ballard, Bennett. Whose next for Eli?

Bennett’s Agent already knows he is going to be a Dolphin. The Giants dont have the Cap to overypay this journeyman. As said numerous times above, Eli and the Giants TE system makes these guys better. Jared Cook and Delaney Walker are the best TEs available, but Bennett is a decent blocker. He fits in Miami. Just sayin
