This could end up being good for both Harrison and Steelers. Steelers need some rebounding, as you can’t limp along in the NFL between being an aging but competitive team. Building is the only way out.

…unless you are the Raiders and get lucky for a couple seasons.

Sooner rather then later? With the way that team played last year and his inability to get on the field I would say they were a year late in releasing him . They are on the verge of doing the same thing with Polamalu. A guy who has hurt his team more then he has helped the last 2 seasons. When he plays he’s good but he’s injured so often that you have to count his replacements play into what he does for the team. And his replacements have been horrible. If he struggles to get on the field again this season I would say they held onto him 3 years to long.

Whomever picks him up is going to have a good player but he played dirty a lot of times. Don’t like that, I mean dirty not just hard hits. illegal things. He is one of the reasons pittsburgh was known as having a dirty team

Yes it is bittersweet as it is the beginning of a new chapter in steeler history. Hate to see him go just like Joey Porter, but, we survived and moved on. He was a great steeler and his SB play will be played over and over in the minds of steeler nation. So steeler fans need to hitch up our big boy pants the ride may be rocky for awhile . In the end it will work out as it always has with success in time. We are not one year wonders like the rat birds.

It’s not just the loss of Harrison. Throw in the losses of Hines Ward, James Farrior and Aaron Smith all within a year of each other, coupled with the mind-boggling coaching of Tomlin, and you have nothing that should suggest that everything is wonderful and right on schedule.
This is not about winning Super Bowls in March. This is about mourning the loss of an era, a kind of a era that comes along about every 20 years.
I’ll match my Steelers Football IQ against yours anytime. The party is over, and there will not be another party like it in quite some time.

Sad news because I would like to have seen James retire as a Steeler. But wait … that could still happen. Can’t believe he’ll have any takers unless Arians, like Whis, plans to continue positioning Arizona as the last stop on the road to retirement. So he may be retiring as a Steeler regardless of his plans. Or perhaps James will have more realistic expectations after testing the market for injury-riddled 35-year-old linebackers and will return to the Steelers for another year after all.

Sad to see you go James – your work ethic is amazing, you gave your heart and soul to your team. I hope you land in the NFC where we won’t have to play against you too much!

That being said, I’m sure I don’t understand this, but if you sign a contract for a certain amount, why isn’t it honored? I think on both sides, if you sign a deal, that should be your payment – no one holds a gun to either side and makes them sign. So if James doesn’t want to take a paycut, he should be paid. Just the same as if you are in the middle of your contract, it shouldn’t matter what kind of year you had, honor it.
No renegotiating. Whatever happened to fulfilling the commitment? Owners and Players.

The Steelers will be just fine without James Harrison. Sure Harrison has some life in him and will land on his feet some where, but the Steelers know what they’re doing, I can’t count the times a marquee player has left, either for more money or other wise, and the Steelers were fine. The fact of the matter is, with a salary cap inplace, you’re not going to be able to keep all the players all the time. It’s the nature of the NFL. There are some who think its the end of the road for the Steelers and clearly they have not watched football for too long. The Rooney’s got this thing figured and have been doing it better than a lot of other franchise’s in the rest of the league. To predict that this team will win the Superbowl and this one wont in early March, is just foolish and show’s how little you know about football.

Just so you know: I am a huge loser that sits around the house all day. I obsess over Profootballtalk, and I get off by bringing down other team’s fans. I live in a fantasy world where I pretend that when the Ravens win I somehow benefit from it personally. So if you don’t care for me just keep in mind that my life is probably worse than yours, but just keep in mind that the Ravens are the world to me. Just saying!

They just extended the most mediocre qb in the NFL at a ridiculous price.

The Steelers will rebound. They always have. Colbert has a better record than Newsome in these matters.

Ironically, it is the fact that they have not been doing that lately that has gotten them into their current cap situation. The Steelers have given top of the market deals to several aging vets and they stand to lose two young players entering their prime in Wallace and Lewis because of it.
