Buccaneers defensive end Michael Bennett, who notched a career-best nine sacks in 2012, looks poised to do well in free agency. The Tampa Bay Times reported Saturday that “multiple teams have been in contact to express interest in Bennett.”
The 27-year-old Bennett ranks No. 11 in PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100. Only the Lions’ Cliff Avril, also reportedly drawing attention early in free agency, ranks ahead of Bennett among 4-3 defensive ends on our list.
The Times wrote that “early indications are reinforcing” the feeling that Bennett could be signing elsewhere, something the publication has previously suggested to be a real possibility.
