There’s still bound to a plethora of knucklehead deals I suspect so probably not. Maybe in another 50 years these teams will figure out what the value of a dollar is and then manage their investments efficiently.

FA works out great for two of the three parties.
The players and their agent. The teams do not get value in FA. It just doesn’t happen often enough.

Not everyone gets a raise every year. Sometimes we are lucky just to have a job. In the case of the NFL, salaries have increased so dramatically over the past 20 years a leveling (maybe even decline) in pay rates should be expected.

The bar needs to be set and teams do not want to overpay for players. Some of these big name players are getting long in the tooth by football standards, so what are teams willing to pay a 30+ year old DE? We are about to find out.
