Bidding war expected between Colts, Browns for Kruger

As the legal non-tampering tampering period continues to unfold, the negotiations-without-offers process has yielded an intriguing prediction as to what will happen once Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET arrives.

The Browns and Colts are expected to launch a bidding war for Ravens linebacker Paul Kruger, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Cleveland resides in the same division as the Ravens, which would provide the Browns an extra kick by taking Kruger from the defending league champs.  And former Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano coaches the Colts.

Throw in the fact that each team has plenty of cap space, and it makes sense for a tug-o-war to emerge.

Our guess for now (and it’s only a guess) is that the Colts will win — but only after the Browns force them to a pay a lot more than they want to pay.

Either way, it’s safe to say Kruger won’t be back in Baltimore in 2013.

Ugh, I have a feeling Kruger could end up like Adalius Thomas, I’d much rather the Colts go after Cliff Avril, he’s younger and has gotten to the qb’s more consistently.

Why would anyone want to play for the Browns?

Good luck with that. When is the last time the Ravens let a player walk and that player lived up to expectations?

  5. ducksouped says: Mar 10, 2013 6:59 PM

He will be yet another linebacker to leave Baltimore and never live up to the hype. Hope I’m wrong, but I doubt it.

Anyone else say Kruger like George Costanza would?

  7. clevelandschronic2 says: Mar 10, 2013 7:19 PM

Plenty of players want to play for the browns. Ex. James harrison said he’d play for us. You people jus choose to believe that no one would play in Cleveland. We may not have a superbowl team yet but we are on our way back. This team has talent it just needs to be used correctly, and a real QB might help too. Plenty more players would gladly play here if we had a QB they thought was good. But that hasnt been the case in a long while. Anyway heres hoping we can land krueger and avril and maybe a CB or safety then draft jones or milliner. Go browns

Kruger needs another threat to thrive, a’la suggs. Too bad the colts let freeny go

  9. boctavious says: Mar 10, 2013 7:22 PM

The browns are on the rise. They have the most passionate fans in the league. A long and rich tradition. A new owner and a very strong group of coaches. Besides, money talks and the browns have more money to play with than anybody else. So that’s why players would play for the browns d bag

Kruger, my son says your company stinks!

  11. emmac13 says: Mar 10, 2013 7:37 PM

It only makes sense for the Browns to drive the price up. After all the Colts are in the AFC. Even if the Browns lose out atleast he is out of the North. As a fan the Browns have nothing to lose but more seasons.

From a Ravens Fan, good luck to the Colts and Browns in this “bidding war” for a player who is purely a system guy. Just like Adalious Thomas and all of the other players who thought the grass was greener on the other side. That’s what makes bad teams like the browns a bad team lol. Overpaying, much like the redskins did until RG3 fell into their laps. When do you ever see teams like Baltimore, Pitt, New England and so on overpay for free agents outside the organization?

Can you say Willis McGHee or is that too far back for your raven history peanut?

Dude is one of two reasons why the Ravens managed to sneak past the Steelers at Heinz Field last year with a win — he had a solid game that day. Wouldn’t mind seeing him out the division … even if he landed in Cleveland, that’d be good enough.

  16. karlton3 says: Mar 10, 2013 8:05 PM

Browns: We will give you X million dollars a year.

Colts : We will give you half of what the Browns are offering, but you don’t have to play for the Browns.

Kruger: Where do I sign Mr. Irsay?

  17. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 10, 2013 8:09 PM

I hope grigson doesnt fall for the foolishness n not overpay for him!!!

  18. thraiderskin says: Mar 10, 2013 8:11 PM

If Kurger is smart, he will sign with the Colts, they still have a pass rusher to keep double teams off of him.

  19. eatitfanboy says: Mar 10, 2013 8:25 PM

Do you honestly think that’s still (or ever was) funny, clever, or original?

  20. ballboy48 says: Mar 10, 2013 8:28 PM

You know why players would want to go to Cleveland? Two things….$$$$ and their fans. They haven’t had a blackout since their last game as the “old Browns”, aka the Ravens, and they’re not a bunch of bandwagon fans.

While I don’t disagree with you about the quality of Cleveland fans, you’d be foolish to believe that factors into a decision. Do you honestly think that if two teams are paying him the same amount, he’s going to pick fans over the chance to win a title? REALLY?

  22. dishepo says: Mar 10, 2013 9:02 PM

Browns have best fans and now best coordinators in league and a really good young core of talent… plus $47 mill to spend. Chances of Ravens or Steelers having as much talent as Browns on defense next year are about zero. Never thought I’d type that but it’s true.

  23. ravenmuscle says: Mar 10, 2013 9:02 PM

Kruger will sign with the Colts. He’s very intelligent….no other reason needed.

Oh…and about that Willis McGahee issue. You must know he is old and now is getting injured while we have Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. Denver can keep McGahee and his bum knees.

And what did Jarrett Johnson…Ben Grubbs…and Corey Redding accomplish last year????All the teams they went to did very little.

ONE THING…the Ravens will get a boat load of compensatory picks for them and have TEN picks in this April’s draft.

  24. bumbleb572 says: Mar 10, 2013 9:04 PM

Colts fan cracks me up. The only reason you are relevant is with your lucky horse shoe. You had manning fall in your lap and now luck. Someone get the browns a an and they are just as good as the Colts if not better.

  25. bengalsstillsuck says: Mar 10, 2013 9:17 PM

Ballboy u are right well said half these ppl dnt know what they are talking i bet they wldnt say that to Cleveland fans faces.

  26. ravenmuscle says: Mar 10, 2013 9:37 PM

Mr. bumbleb572….did you mean to say get a QUARTERBACK? Hope so. Then I agree with you….Brandon Weeden will never get you to the promised land. Brady Quinn wan’t a great move either.

    ===================================

The Ravens cut McGahee, they didn’t let him walk. Big difference. They knew that Willis still could ball, but they weren’t going to pay him 6 mil a year to back up Ray Rice.

Your pathetic steelers could learn a thing or two on how to run a team from the WORLD CHAMPION BALTIMORE RAVENS.

  31. watermelon1 says: Mar 11, 2013 10:16 AM

Pretty sad to see how blind some fans are.

Hey ravens fans… You have a talented team! But you are clueless as to where the talent lies.

You call KRUGER a “system player” who needs “talent around him to take attention away?”

The guy made plays even when Suggs has been out!

But you praise flacco like a god? The guy had an amazing postseason… But sucked during the regular season! Was he really THAT great? Or did Torrey smith and annual boudin come up with miracle catch after miracle catch to bail him out and inflate flacco’s stats? Jacoby jones even helped out there with some insane moves to get plenty of YAC.

People think players haven’t flourished after leaving the ravens?!? James Harrison got cut by the ravens twice and then had a few dominant years in Pittsburgh. Jamal Lewis ran for 1300+ yards his first year in Cleveland and beat the ravens that season. Dawan Landry has been good for Jacksonville(who beat the ravens last year)… But you never hear about him because… Well, it’s Jacksonville.

Take your heads out of flacco’s butt and you might be able to see where the talent truly lies on your team.

    Wait…the colts have a defense?
