Getty ImagesAlabama’s Eddie Lacy, who’s widely regarded as the best running back in this year’s NFL draft, is still being held back by a hamstring injury.
Lacy didn’t work out at the Scouting Combine because he suffered a small tear in his hamstring in mid-February, and now he has decided not to participate in the Crimson Tide’s Pro Day on Wednesday because of the injury.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Lacy still plans to work out for NFL teams at some point, but the date of that workout has not been determined.
Lacy ran for 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns for Alabama last season and was both the MVP of the SEC Championship Game and the offensive MVP of the BCS National Championship Game. NFL teams know what Lacy can do on the field, so his inability to work out at either the Combine or his Pro Day probably won’t do much to his draft stock. Just as long as his hamstring heals well enough that he can run at some point before the draft.

No sense in running on a torn hamstring.
Lacy’s still got plenty of time to heal up and still run before the draft.
Draft him? No thanks, I’ll take someone from his old offensive line.
Really no need to run before the draft IMO. This guy is a beast.
Judge him on what he did against real teams and opponents with a real front seven, not what he did against ND and #5. He’s still darned good.
Pro days are overrated. Just go back to the tape, the film doesn’t lie!
2FL dynasty league #1 overall pick!!!! This kid will be a beast in the NFL!!!
I feel he’s going to fall to The Steelers in Rd 2
Dude’s probably still trying to catch his breath after repeatedly running it down ND’s throat.
The last 2 backs from Saint Nick’s system have been underwhelming; unless you like plodders that average <4YPC. Lacey looks to be from the same mold; having feasted thanks to his great OL. Pure power might be okay for a few GL TDs in the NFL, but to be a true BEAST, you need to mix in some vision, moves and sweet feet.
Hope he doesn’t have to rely on an education to make a living!
