The Cardinals have signed safety Rashad Johnson to a three-year deal, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday night.

Johnson, 27, is entering his fifth NFL season. He was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday. The 5-11, 204-pound Alabama product has appeared in 57 games (14 starts), notching 133 tackles, defending 10 passes and hauling in three interceptions. With stalwart Adrian Wilson no longer in the fold, Johnson could be in line for a bigger role in the Cardinals’ secondary in 2013.

Johnson was the the Cardinals’ third-round pick in the 2009 draft. Beanie Wells, the club’s first-rounder in that same draft, was released by Arizona on Monday. Also, the Arizona Republic reported Monday that LaRod Stephens-Howling, a seventh-rounder in 2009, could be departing in free agency.
