The Cowboys are back under the salary cap for the moment, and they only had to cut one guy.

After releasing linebacker Dan Connor, the Cowboys also restructured the contracts of nose tackle Jay Ratliff, cornerback Orlando Scandrick and guard Mackenzy Bernadeau, according to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

That clears $6.8 million worth of room, and gets them under the $123 million cap before Tuesday’s deadline.

While they talked to Connor about pay cut, before deciding to just release him, the other three did simple restructures, converting base salary into a bonus, which can be prorated over the remaining years of the deal.

That kicks the can down the road cap-wise, providing relief now which will have to be accounted for in a year when they aren’t being penalized by the league.
