Getty ImagesAs Gantt pointed out earlier in the day, the Cowboys needed to cut about $7 million in cap room.
They created nearly half of that space by cutting linebacker Dan Connor.
Connor, who was due to earn a base salary of $3 million this year, previously had been given the dreaded pay-cut-or-get-out ultimatum. Since he was in the final year of his contract, the move creates at least $3 million in cap space.
Connor immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent. To which the many others say, “Join the club. Now get the hell out of my way as I try to get paid.”

“Since he was in the final year of his contract, the move creates at least $3 million in cap space.” Uhmm, no. It creates at MOST $3M in cap space; less if he had a signing bonus with the cap hit spread out over his contract.
Connor was weak in pass coverage and this move may be have been done to get them in position to make a play for someone in free agency this week.
