If release is coming, Elvis Dumervil wants it sooner than later

The Broncos and DE Elvis Dumervil are at an “impasse” in negotiations over his 2013 compensation, agent Marty Magid told Mike Klis of the Denver Post on Monday. And as long as the Broncos are unwilling to budge from their current position and want to part ways with the veteran end, Dumervil would like his release on Tuesday, Magid indicated to the Post.

“There’s no animosity, whatsoever,” Magid said, per the Post. “Elvis understands this is a business. He loves the Broncos and he’d still like to come back and play for the Broncos under his current contract or restructure proposal that we sent them. But if we can’t reach common ground and you know as an organization that you’re going to release him, then we’d like for them to release him by (2) p.m. tomorrow and not wait another four days. No hard feelings. We just disagree on their restructure option.”

Per the Post, Magid and the Broncos met Monday but didn’t reach common ground.

Dumervil, 29, is slated to make $12 million in salary in 2013. He notched 11 sacks a season ago. Dumervil’s salary becomes guaranteed if Dumervil is on the roster on Saturday.

Saturday will also mark the fifth day of free-agent signings. By then, numerous top-tier unsigned players figure to have found new homes. If Dumervil has to hit free agency, pushing for an early entry is the right move.
