Amendola will take visits to (for now) undisclosed teams

Getty Images

Rams receiver Danny Amendola has become a free agent.  And he’s not expected to stay with the Rams.

Per a league source, Amendola is currently planning to visit two teams.  The names of the teams aren’t yet known.

Which could mean that one or both teams have insisted on discretion.

Regardless, the chances of Amendola staying with the Rams are small and shrinking.

Potentially interested teams include (and we’re guessing) the Patriots and the Vikings.  The Ravens could be interested, given the departure of Anquan Boldin.

The Texans also could make sense, especially since they have released Kevin Walter.

Amendola to the Pats make too much sense.

I don’t want the Vikes to overpay this guy

  4. packhater1 says: Mar 12, 2013 11:04 PM

Vikings will overpay him as they need a wr that will be ok and not complain about our horrible QB. Nobody else will play with ponder

Ravens and Texans would have no reason to request secrecy because there are no scenarios where negotiations with their own free agents would be affected. Vikings appear to have nothing to hide after the departure of Harvin and having already disclosing their needs. That leaves the Patriots (hmmmm) who coincidentally do have a complicated and sticky situation on their hands with all three of their free agent receivers. This does not appear to fall into the category of Rocket Science.

guy is great but cannot stay on the field don’t know how the Rams cant afford him.

  10. minnesotablizzard says: Mar 12, 2013 11:21 PM

Jarius Wright deserves a chance. He’s showed potential and hopefully with another year under his belt, continues to improve.

  11. bkh405 says: Mar 12, 2013 11:21 PM

I maintain, big mistake if STL lets him walk.

  12. badniss says: Mar 12, 2013 11:25 PM

look like i will be changing teams this thing!! Vikings just arent the same no more I miss those Mike Tice days!!!!!

  13. tedmurph says: Mar 12, 2013 11:27 PM

He’s been rumored to the Pats because he’s supposed to be some sort of Welker clone. He’s not even close. He’s more similar to Edelman. Looks the part, not nearly as talented and can’t stay healthy. He’s never had 700 yrds receiving in a yr.

  14. cusoman says: Mar 12, 2013 11:29 PM

As a Vikings fan, I can’t help but feel this signing would have John Carlson written all over it.

  15. lasher1650 says: Mar 12, 2013 11:32 PM

Guy just doesn’t stay on the field enough to justify big money. With he could play 16 games, but his track record says that it is highly unlikely. Hardto give money to someone like that.

  16. eatitfanboy says: Mar 12, 2013 11:34 PM

What happened to the Eagles? You posted an article just yesterday that they were going to make him an offer and now he doesn’t even make your list of interested teams?

Marshall, Jeffrey, Bennett & Amendola would rock the NFC North. Too bad it’ll never happen…….(right??)

  18. darkneptune73 says: Mar 12, 2013 11:50 PM

As a Vikings fan, it would break my heart if even Amendola won’t come here because of Ponder. He’s a good player and we need him. But if he doesn’t like our QB situation, then I hope the Vikings realize Ponder is doing us more harm than good with getting good players coming here.

  19. ben1332 says: Mar 12, 2013 11:59 PM

5.9 yards per target and 7 touchdowns for his career. In his “good” season he had 6.6 YPT and 3 scores on 101 passes thrown his way. I thought the point was to make the team better.
Nobody would even know his name if his NFL comparison was say Eddie Royal instead of Julian Edelman

  20. shaggytoodle says: Mar 13, 2013 12:02 AM

If a WR won’t come to Minny. cuz of the QB situation then forget them.

They have RB that can help them. pretty much as an above average QB.

I am not close to a Viking fan, and I don’t see many Rams games.

Is Bradford (-Steven Jackson) that far ahead of Chirstian Ponder with AP?

  21. 2ruefan says: Mar 13, 2013 12:02 AM

Enough of the baseless “players don’t want to come because of Ponder” balogna. That is just disgruntled, ignorant fan-talk projecting your OWN opinion into the real world.

The only one who was promoting that was Percy Harvin. And that moron didn’t realize that BECAUSE of Ponder throwing him the ball every friggin time he was leading the league in receptions and YAC when he got hurt.

    Not a reality.

Vikings won 10 games last year with Ponder at the helm, and you same idiots who were drooling to have Joe Webb play QB finally got to see the difference between Webb and an actual QB in the playoff game…

  22. sportsbastard says: Mar 13, 2013 12:20 AM

As a Rams fan (which I am), I wish Danny the best, and hope he can find good health wherever he ends up, but I’ll gladly (given their respective age) “trade” Amendola, Jackson and Mikell for J. Long, Cook, and Delmas.

  23. kw93 says: Mar 13, 2013 12:29 AM

Why wouldn’t Jarius Wright get a chance if they sign Danny. Because they are around the same height?

  24. onebucplace says: Mar 13, 2013 12:32 AM

The Bucs could really use a slot receiver and return guy.

  25. stealthjunk says: Mar 13, 2013 12:32 AM

It’d be a shame if Amendola didn’t end up with either Brady or Manning — those guys could take him to a whole new level while also improving their teams significantly.

  26. blowtorch1964 says: Mar 13, 2013 1:02 AM

He is like Edelman, only not as fast. And he’s a china doll. However, if he came to the JETS he would be well loved in NY, they need a new Wayne Chrebet.

That’s right, I compared him to TWO other white receivers.

  27. walkedintoabar says: Mar 13, 2013 2:07 AM

I doubt it’s the Ravens, a big aspect of this guy’s game is punt returner and the Ravens have that in Jacoby Jones and the re-signed (and terrible) David Reed. The Pats being linked to Cribbs (another returner) as well as juggling a stable of recievers makes me think it’s them, and the Vikes need any sort of WR, plus they’ve seen the guy up-close and personal. Both teams have a lot of cap room, my bets on them.

  28. jibberator says: Mar 13, 2013 2:43 AM

Man this guy is a beast, if only he could manage to stay healthy for half of a season…

  29. theuglitruth says: Mar 13, 2013 2:44 AM

No point in taking a “pay cut” in NE…because that’s what they want everyone to do!

  30. phillyphannn83 says: Mar 13, 2013 3:37 AM

hmmm so writers from some sports website wrote 24 hrs ago that the Eagles would make an offer. Sound familiar Florio?

  31. tennesseetyrant says: Mar 13, 2013 5:16 AM

… What the lleh ? We lost Jared – signed a no catching TE , Now the Titans are thinking about Danny ? Great replacement at the slot, but his blocking has much to be desired for as much as we run the ball ….IS Doug Baldwin expendable now in Seattle ?

  32. dirtydave6986 says: Mar 13, 2013 9:14 AM

Yes the Texans would make sense since they cut Walter…you know, because all white receivers are “gritty Wes Welker” types

  33. welandedonthemoon says: Mar 13, 2013 2:24 PM

Potentially a stud WR out of the slot, a good punt returner, no character issues, young, not going to demand an outrageous contract, etc. Lots of upside for any team.

  34. filthymcnasty1 says: Mar 13, 2013 8:57 PM

It looks like the pundits were right and he didn’t want to play with Ponder.
