The free-agency period has opened, and the hottest free-agent safety is getting ready to make the rounds.

As Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported on Twitter and as we have confirmed, 49ers safety Dashon Goldson will be visiting the Buccaneers.

Goldson played for San Francisco under the franchise tag in 2012, but the Niners did not tag him a second time.

Every indication is that Goldson will be an Eagle this year… but we will see

Got home from the gym to see this.. happy to see my bucs targeting him. Goldson is a solid all around saftey. Known for his hard hits but still good, not great, in coverage. Him and Barron would be the two hardest hitting saftey duo’s in the NFL. People who don’t know who Barron is search his hit on RG3 on youtube..

Im and Eagles fan and I def want this guy. But is Philly really an attractive team for a FA anymore?

  7. phillylawhopeful says: Mar 12, 2013 4:22 PM

The Bucs seem to smell blood in the water and are clearly being active in shopping for players. Having a Pro Bowl-esque RB on the roster for next to no pay, you can afford to make that push.

  8. lionsdraftguy says: Mar 12, 2013 4:23 PM

Regardless where he goes, he will automatically be classier not being a 49er.

  9. bucrightoff says: Mar 12, 2013 4:23 PM

From one Bay to the other. He won’t be leaving Tampa as anything other than a Buc.

  10. lionsfan415 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:24 PM

Screw the good weather and the favorable tax situation, come to detroit fella!

  11. guvsta says: Mar 12, 2013 4:24 PM

He’ll be an Eagle in 4-5 years when he’s in the last few years of his career and looking for a mug to overpay him- until then, he’s got bigger plans.

  12. wjmoffatt says: Mar 12, 2013 4:24 PM

Goldson and Revis together would be amazing!!!

  13. waxthat says: Mar 12, 2013 4:24 PM

Whoever signs Goldson (hopefully switching him to SS), better have a ball hawk/cover guy at FS who makes very little mistakes.

  14. gotampabay52 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:24 PM

He coming to Tampa and he is to sign suck it Philly boy

  15. onearmsteven says: Mar 12, 2013 4:24 PM

  18. greenbleeder says: Mar 12, 2013 4:26 PM

And if he doesn’t become an Eagle, then Tom Gamble know’s he’s a punk

  19. jae121704 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:26 PM

NE would be a good fit for him…but he wants a lot of $$$. With PHI losing Nnamdi, he very well cold go there.

Tampa slumming it compared to the cesspool that is Philly? That’s high comedy right there.

  21. liner1900 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:27 PM

With Barron & this guy, where does Barber fit in?

  22. schaeff08 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:27 PM

Mark, treat him like you did Nicks last year, don’t let him walk out the door. Sign him immediately.

  26. norcalmafia says: Mar 12, 2013 4:38 PM

Die hard Niner fan here and I hate to see Goldson go..He may not be the best in coverage but this cat can play ball..People under estimate how much a physical presence like his has such an effect on the field..Ive seen this dude light a reciever up in the 1st quarter and literally watch more than one reciever alligator arm balls the rest of the game..Plus hes awesome at stopping the run.Hes a great pick up by any team and Ill miss watching him on Sundays..Goodluck Goldson!

  27. myosin10 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:40 PM

Good SF already has a big hitting SS Whitner now we need a ballhawk, Reed please.

  28. gotampabay52 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:40 PM

1960 did they wear helmets back then….

  29. bobonmycob says: Mar 12, 2013 4:41 PM

Bucs fans can’t talk trash to Eagles fans. Your team is not relevent at all. This is why the Rams and Bucs were the teams picked to go to the UK because nobody cares. Even if the Eagles have ZERO super bowls were still a top 5 media market team and will continue to see tons of cap money and big name players. So we can be the dream team, dynasty, whatever unoriginal remark you want to use. But the bottomline is that we will always be a headline team and the bucs well…. they will continue to be the 3rd best nfl team in florida.

  30. dispellthemyths says: Mar 12, 2013 4:49 PM

Flavordave. You speak like a 12 yr old. Quit giving Phillyhaters a good target.

Dukemarc . You only think other places are cesspools because you live in an outhouse basement.
And to set the record straight Eagles have 3 NFL championships. ( but must be older than dirt to remember them)

  31. thraiderskin says: Mar 12, 2013 4:51 PM

pre-NFL championships mean about as much as UFL championships.

  32. wjmoffatt says: Mar 12, 2013 4:51 PM

    @Bobonmycob
So are the Pats no relevant because the NFL chooses them to go to England too.

Sounds like someone is still upset about a certain NFC Championship game 10 years ago.
Hold that thought, I gotta shine up my Super Bowl Championship ring

  34. thraiderskin says: Mar 12, 2013 4:57 PM

@bobonmycob… Your city is a rat hole, even if Tampa Bay never wins another superbowl, their irrelevent franchise has still accomplished something great, the Eagles never have. Even with a weaker media market, they still have something in their relevent trophy case that the Eagles do not. When times get tough, the Buccaneer fans can still cling to the fact, they were once the best team in Pro-football… the Eagle fans can’t. So you can act like your city matters, but when it comes to football, all Philadelphia is good for is a great joke. Like I can say, my Raiders suck, but atleast we aren’t the Eagles.

Dammit, I thought the goal for NFL teams was to win games. Thanks to @bobonmycob for explaining that the true goal is to make headlines. In that case, I guess the Iggles and Redskins are true dynasties.

    1960? Really? Punch yourself.
