Getty ImagesRandy McMichael is on the way out in San Diego.
McMichael, a tight end who has played for the Chargers for the last three seasons, has been released, a league source tells PFT.
The decision is not a big surprise. Although McMichael’s $1 million base salary for 2013 was affordable, he was due a $250,000 roster bonus on the fifth day of the league year, and that was more than the Chargers wanted to give a player who will be 34 before the season starts.
Although he was largely phased out of the Chargers’ passing game last season, with just nine catches in 16 games, he’s still a solid blocker, and some offense that employs a blocking tight end can use McMichael. It just won’t be the Chargers.

I had no idea this guy was still in the league.
I think the Chargers are going for a first round pick next year.
He was at a Waffle House when he got the news. Go so mad that he threw his phone at his wi……
You know you’ve worn out your welcome when a team cuts you so they won’t have to pay a $250k roster bonus.
Good TEAM player and a savvy vet. I like him, but SD has to get YOUNGER and need a BETTER blocking Tight End. Dante’ Rosario was a better option.

You clearly didn’t watch the Chargers last year. McMichael. He was basically an extension to our line. He was a very solid blocker. Best on the team, hell sometimes better than the actual lineman
Randy was an awesome 2nd TE on the Chargers, and as a San Diego fan, I hope he knows how appreciative of him we are.
Best luck to you!
