Dolphins add linebacker Phillip Wheeler

The Dolphins are doing a good job of selling tickets — and buying votes.

Along the way, they’re also improving their football team.

Per a league source, the Dolphins have agreed to terms with former Raiders linebacker Phillip Wheeler.  He’s currently on his way to Miami from the West Coast.

It’s a five-year, $26 million deal, with $13 million fully guaranteed.

Wheeler signed with the Raiders last year, after four seasons with the Colts.

It’s been a dizzying day for Dolphins fans, who would have been thrilled simply with getting receiver Mike Wallace.  They’ve now added linebacker Dannell Ellerbe from the Ravens, and Wheeler from the Raiders.

Wonder who Miami will overpay next. They’ve had a busy day but it seems like kind of a wash without their LT or best CB inked.

Dolphins are really blowing the wad this year in FA

  8. xpensivewinos says: Mar 12, 2013 8:22 PM

They really did not like their linebacker play last year, did they?

  9. therealraider says: Mar 12, 2013 8:22 PM

It sucks the Raiders couldnt resign him. He deserves to be paid.

Great move on Wallace, now they just need a qb that can actually throw the ball.

Hate to say it, but Ellerbe and now Wheeler? Where is the old Jeff Ireland and what have you done with him?

  16. marshawnlynchlookslikepredator says: Mar 12, 2013 8:25 PM

Good signing.. High price but he is a very solid underrated LB

The one thing about living in Miami (unless you play for the Heat), work becomes secondary. Too many other distractions. These young guys who now have multi millions are going to enjoy it.

The Dolphins are far from being a Super Bowl team, but this will put more people in Club Liv and that is what Ross and Dee really care about. Their sales staff surely can’t fill it on their own.

Damn it damn it damn it!!!

The Raiders literally have nothing on defense now.

  19. PhillySports25 says: Mar 12, 2013 8:26 PM

The Dolphins could be interesting next year. Honestly, it seems that they could be New England’s biggest “competition.”

  22. gregerss says: Mar 12, 2013 8:29 PM

  23. dolphincult says: Mar 12, 2013 8:29 PM

everybody needs a player with dreads on the defense

  24. fresh1323 says: Mar 12, 2013 8:30 PM

The Phins are making all the right moves right now…. Please do not mess it up Ross!!

As a Dolphin fan, I’m in denial right now. Not used to this much positive news. Now, go get a CB and TE

  26. ern215 says: Mar 12, 2013 8:37 PM

its gettin dark in raider nation right now

  27. 1uniquename says: Mar 12, 2013 8:46 PM

So far so good, get better at the linebacker position in order to deal with NEs TE situation. Now it’s time to go after some backup type pieces and perhaps a TE, but I’m starting to believe they feel good about our draft pick from last year, never played, can’t block and can’t remember his name cause of it lol.

  28. zackattack006 says: Mar 12, 2013 8:50 PM

    Wow! Is Burnett out?

  29. phinsplashy2013 says: Mar 12, 2013 8:51 PM

LB core already looks better and younger plus we got someone to stretch field, very nice start.

  30. tegmiami says: Mar 12, 2013 8:51 PM

    Wow, Well done!

  31. fordraptorforum says: Mar 12, 2013 8:51 PM

similar numbers to Kevin Burnett last year, but younger and cheaper. Don’t be surprised if Burnett gets axed

  32. 69finfan says: Mar 12, 2013 10:17 PM

Excellent job Jeff. Now keep up the momentum and sign a TE, OL, and CB. Go Fins!

  33. nmrdr795 says: Mar 12, 2013 11:16 PM

Raider fans are pessimist, Wheeler had a career year last year, chill out we still have Miles Burris to anchor the new regime.

  34. btwicey says: Mar 13, 2013 3:34 AM

Wheeler and Ellerbie are 2 of the most underrated LB in the game. Brilliant signings
