Filling in your roster with solid contributors and high upside signings is exactly what you want to do as a rebuilding team. The Eagles aren’t winning the Super Bowl this year, so that argument is a moot point.

Look what Indy did last year – turned over more than half their roster with low-risk signings and got key contributions from a ton of players.

And I seem to remember Jacoby Jones and Bernard Pollard playing key roles on a certain team that just won the Super Bowl… But hey, I could be mistaken.

The Patriots have used this formula for years. The Niners did it in signing guys like Carlos Rogers, Ahmad Brooks, Donte Whitner a few years ago.

The draft is most important, but there’s nothing wrong with a few low-risk, high-reward signings. Particularly guys like Casey and Fletcher, who are versatile and can produce at minimum in stiuational roles, but could be much more given the opportunity.

He’s a hard hitter, although misses a lot of tackles. Zero instincts on coverage. Plays the run much better than the pass, making him one-dimensional. Spends a lot of time injured. No wonder the guy never stood a chance on BB’s defense.

2001 Patriots like phoff12 said, and the Packers when they made the big Charles Woodson signing (even though they didn’t win the Super Bowl for a few more years), the 49ers and Cowboys with Deion Sanders, the 2004 Patriots signed a couple of key free agents. Also the 2007 Patriots signed a bunch of free agents, they made it to the Super Bowl but didn’t win. The Eagles problem a few years ago was that they stockpiled at just a couple positions (CB, DL) and ignored needs (LB, S, OL).

I enjoyed his play early in his career, but injuries had him miss to many games to progress into a good Run stopping safety. I dislike the Eagles, but hopefully he stays healthy this year.
