if you want to be honest about it, troy p is the most over-rated player in the nfl. too may injuries, not enough contribution.

Foote had his best year ever last year for the #1 d in the league. Still hope they get connors too, then plus a rookie, they will have some legit depth for next year. Pretty good signing.

To start the next year, on offense the steelers will have as many as 10 starters 4 years or younger. On defense, they are a bit older, but still have a lot younger players. Only foote and keisal (and possibly hampton if he comesback) who are older players among their front seven. The #1 secondary in the league will have 3 of their 4 starters older, but still have a great deal of young talent, especially at corner. The draft will bring more younger players as well. Only the football ignorant still think they are an old team. This signing is for quality veteran leadership and it’s a good one.

All u people saying kick Timmons outside r stupid if u kick him out he will struggle he has struggled at outside backer before so get Connor and draft a rookie linebacker to replace Harrison they can get a receiver in the 2nd round that’s the smart way to go it would add depth cause they still have woirlds and he’s been solid so they can develop a young guy from the draft

Those “Old n Slow” guys did pretty damn good if you ask me..as they do Every year..We had some hickups early..but that had very little to do with Foote (The old Guy) but more to do with Harrison (injured) & gone Woodley (injured) and Hampton (The guy fat Guy) and likely gone or replaced by McClendon.. Hood (just hasent lived up to #1 pick) Keisel had a decent year (being old and all) My worries are on the under achieving Offense. We need a top 10 RB thru the draft and a WR in the 1st 2 rounds..or OLB if one falls to us.The rest will take care of itself.

I don’t see all this restructuring as a good plan. I think it’s no secret that the Ravens modeled their front office after the Steelers but the Steelers seem to have become all heart and no head. Both of these teams are known for letting high priced free agents walk and cutting or trading their aging stars as their price raises over their talent.

It used to be the same story about both these teams every year: not big enough splash signings, lost too many players, the decline is coming; and every year they were good because they made smart signings and built through the draft. The Steelers seem to be desperately trying to hold onto the scraps of their powerhouse team from last decade.

I don’t see how another year older helps this team as they bleed playmakers on offense. Ben will be Ben for a few more years but there doesn’t seem to be much talent around him anymore but Brown.

richie, while I agree with the 6-10 record, your assessment is way off. Ben was off to his best statistical season by far before he was injured and the Steelers were 6-2 at that point with dumb losses to the Titans & Raiders which were at fault of the coaching (having your kicker attempt a game-ending career long FG only to have the other team get the short field and kick the winning FG). The problem is the secondary and the running game. The secondary cannot hold up the receivers giving the LB the chance to sack and the lack of running game is allowing defenses to key in on the passing game. Ben will be fine as long as the line holds up.

8-8 record while having 3/4 of your starters missing playing time due to injury (10 of 11 on the offense) plus playing games with your 3rd Qb, 4th RB and a WR off the street.

As far as moving cap numbers to future years, the cap historically increases, so why not?

Long season coming up Steeler fans! When Foote is your starting LB your in trouble!
This team is void of any playmakers on either side of the ball. Cutting there only pass rusher that can sack,fumble is going to hurt.
I see 6 wins just because of Ben.
Be realistic guys and quit looking through black and gold glasses!

Seen Foote commin back when I heard about Spence still not being ready to go..As Far as Woodley is concerned.. his heads on the chopping block. I bet if he has the same lack of production and injuries he had last year he will be cut in 2014..and anyone who saw Timmons play OLB knows he’s way better inside..Not sayin they can’t mix it up some.Woodley needs to take Harrison’s spot just because Keisel would be more help then Ziggy on the other side. We still need a young pass rushing freak in the draft
