Lions want to get Bush signed before he leaves town

Ryan Tannehill, Reggie Bush AP

Reggie Bush is now a free agent, for the first time in his career.  Per multiple sources, he’ll visit the Lions first.

The Lions, we’re told, are nervous about Bush leaving without a contract.  The market has heated up for Bush as free agency approached.

The Cardinals also are interested in Bush.  As mentioned earlier in the afternoon, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III wants Bush in Washington.

Some think Bush is destined to land a deal that pays, on average, $3 million to $4 million per year.  He was paid a base salary of $4.5 million in 2012 by Miami.

Bush with CJ and Stafford = #1 offense this year and offense with the most 40 yard plays.

  2. flavordave says: Mar 12, 2013 4:29 PM

Bush couldnt be the third string RB on the Eagles. Hes a loser. He even lost on Kim.

“DONT LET HIM ON THAT PLANE!!!!”

Didn’t this same thing happen with Mario Williams last year in Buffalo? How’d that work out?

  4. stevincinci says: Mar 12, 2013 4:31 PM

Bengals might be a dark horse in this conversation for Bush, per my sources.

    And still 4-12.

Maybe true, but if the Defense is still giving up the most 40 yard plays in the league then its another long season ahead.

Reggie to DC! I like the thought of Reg, Big Al, and Bob running the Pistol to perfection. Of course keeping in mind Kirks Cousin will most likely start the season.

Who are the sources and is he in Detroit right now?

  9. logicailvoicesays says: Mar 12, 2013 4:33 PM

Bush is just another player who knows the best team to be with is the Redskins. Classiest team, best history and best future. The Redskins were the best team in the NFL last season and they are going to be the bests team for a long time. HTTR.

I hope they get it done. Bush would be perfect for the Lions offense. He might be the best receiving RB in the league, and Detroit will use him a lot in the passing game.

  11. ctown4life says: Mar 12, 2013 4:35 PM

Bush on Lions would be a scary offense. Too bad your defense can’t stop a high school offense

  12. wadecounty93 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:37 PM

You would think they way this guy contributed on offense for the fins the last 2 years they would sign him for 3-4mil a yr especially with all the cap space even know they have other holes. Well I hope Lamar Miller pans out.

  13. funktron2x says: Mar 12, 2013 4:40 PM

If he’s cheap, let’s do it. But do not enter a stupid bidding war! He’s only worth it at cost.

  14. realdealsteel says: Mar 12, 2013 4:44 PM

    If I’m Bush,

With the knee issues I”ve had, do I want to play on a hard carpet? If I were Bush, I’d have the Redskins in the pole position for my services. Better chance for a longer career.

  15. austinoxford says: Mar 12, 2013 4:47 PM

Please dont let this happen. I want more headlines that read “Star Athlete Wants Bush in XYZ Town.”

  16. notaslappy says: Mar 12, 2013 4:48 PM

The Lions have much bigger needs than a luxury like Bush. This is pretty typical here in the D…smh.

  17. jacksprat57 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:50 PM

Realdealsteal, the “carpet” is easier on a man’s knees than is playing for Shannahan, these days.

I’m all for some Bush the Lions need to
    BUILD A DEFENSE!!!!!!

  19. hehateme2 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:50 PM

They hope he doesn’t actually see the city. After living in tropical S. Florida Detroit has to be a scary thought.

  20. kpow55 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:52 PM

How about you attempt to build a secondary? If there were no salary cap or this was Fantasy Football, Bush would be a great fit.

As stated above, when the Defense cant stop a HS offense, lets work on that first.

Nothing wrong with shoring up the secondary and getting consistently above .500.

Then when quality FAs will want to come there and you wont have to stretch and overpay as they will want to play for a winner.

    A Bush League?

  22. nathanbetz91 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:53 PM

Why would rg3 want Reggie bush in Washington when they already have Alfred Morris who turned out to be one of the best running backs in the league last year, not to mention Reggie bushs history with injuries

  23. asimonetti88 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:53 PM

Would be a good move for both Reggie and the Lions, but they will need to improve their defense too if they want to return to the playoffs.

  24. bageesh4 says: Mar 12, 2013 4:55 PM

Skins don’t need Bush at the point. We got Al and Helu coming back from injury. Best case scenario is to get Talib and RT+S early in the draft. Talib may be out of the question though.

A team whose nickname is a racial slur for Native Americans…yup, that would be my vote for Classiest team in the NFL.

  27. lionsmark09 says: Mar 12, 2013 5:02 PM

Gotta love all the Detroit haters. People who have never been to Detroit love to talk trash. And the Lions D-fense is a little better that it seems. Haters gonna hate.

This post is so ridiculous it borders on insane.

    A) You cannot be the classiest team if your organization’s team name is absurdly racist.
    B) Best history? Really? I’m fairly certain that the people in Green Bay, Pittsburgh, San Fran, New England, Dallas and New York (NFC) all could take issue with that.
    C) Best future? Your QB, who is awesome by the way, has 1 leg. Your best WR is Pierre Garcon. You have limited cap space because of shady dealings and your owner is Daniel Snyder. Nice future there.
    D) Best team? Are you high sir? You won arguably the worst division in football on the last day with a 9-7 record and then lost in round 2. Last time I checked the best team usually wins the Super Bowl. You didn’t come close.

  29. atthemurph says: Mar 12, 2013 5:07 PM

Lions only have about $6M cap space. Who they cutting?

“Bush on Lions would be a scary offense. Too bad your defense can’t stop a high school offense.” — ctown4life ………. Let me pick that apart a bit, my man: (1) 5 Lions CB’s each started 3 or more games in 2012; their opening day best missed 10 starts. (2) 7 Lions S’s started 2 or more games; the opening day starters missing 23 games. This team’s D just needs to get somewhat healthy and sign one decent player at each level. If that first one is Jarvis Jones, then they’ll rip it up.

  31. jacksprat57 says: Mar 12, 2013 5:17 PM

atthemurph, if need be, Backus. My guess is that they’ve agree to mutually wait. If Jeff doesn’t come back, then he’s probably got an informal agreement that keeps him financially involved with the team. A Stafford restructure is likely also on hold, pending a need. Why show your hand early?

  32. ern215 says: Mar 12, 2013 5:30 PM

the lions offense would be scary good with bush in there and if best ever comes back that is a hell of a 1,2 punch, defense needs to step up

Play there, I’ll give you that argument since the lions have been bad for so long.

But I love when people talk about living in the Detroit area. The city of Detroit outside of a few nice areas is bad. But, the metro Detroit suburbs are nice and just like any other suburban area in the USA. Google Oakland county, which is where 90% of athletes for Detroit Teams live, it’s one of the richest county’s in the USA.
And 20 minutes away is Ann Arbor, a city that has it’s own metropolitan bubble that has grown up around it with one of the most highly educated and diverse populations in the USA. Ann Arbor also consistently gets named one of the best places to live in the USA.
