Getty ImagesIn yet another sign that the most-expected, least-surprising move of the offseason will come to fruition, Mike Wallace is in Miami taking a physical.
While the Steelers wideout has been widely speculated to be headed there for what seems like months, Jeff Darlington of NFL.com reports that he’s taking the physical after agreeing to a contract.
The Dolphins were hell-bent on adding a receiving threat for second-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill, and unless Wallace changes his mind while the doc’s looking at him, they appear to have shaken their reputation for being nothing more than leverage.

The 1960 World Champs dont need Wallace. Hes tainted from that evil criminal organization.
Aaand that’s the last we’re gonna hear of Mike Wallace. Always knew he was a bad seed.
That didn’t take long. Enjoy mediocrity Mr. Wallace.
The tide has changed in Miami! Making moves!! Welcome to Miami Mike Wallace!
OOOO BABYY!
Miami is probably going to over pay for a receiver that is only capable of running one route.
Wallace gives Tannehill a nice deep threat. I still think they need more weapons though, I see them drafting a WR or TE in rounds 1-3 this upcoming draft.
$10+million for a one route wonder. Good for him I guess…
And all the Vikings fans breathed a sigh of relief.
Bet they overpaid.
I guess Ryan Clark couldn’t convince his former teammate that no one wants to play for the Dolphins.
Hope this is true and hope we didn’t pay more than $11-12/year for him.
Thats alot of money for a “One Trick Poney” But I dont begrudge him for taking it.
Now lets go get Jared Cook from The Titans and go win some games! What a nice day for Dolphin Nation so far…
Tannehill is an average (at best) QB. Wallace will be sorry that he went just for the big payday.
Let’s go get Cook now.
Wide outs are easy to find if you have a quarterback. They aren’t worth the big contracts. I hope the Vikings don’t sign any of these free agents looking to break the bank.
I’m sure Wallace is going to hate mediocrity and it’s $65 MM.
Aqib Talib must be pumped about this. Pats are going to need some help in the secondary.
“The 1960 World Champs dont need Wallace.”
At least they were champs at one point in history
Paid too much but enjoy him hes fun to watch and will score some exciting TDs this year.
Best part of this? crying from Stealer fans as they realise that 3rd in the AFC North, is probably going to become commonplace. Lol, good stuff and glad to see Plaxico bringing back the ‘glory’ years. LOL!
5 yr/65 mill, 30 mill guaranteed. LMAO. Sources close to the deal say he dropped the pen when getting ready to sign.
Cue all the “one trick pony” comments from pittsburgh fans
(even though pitt offered mike 50 mil to stay)
Ragnar wept.
He just wanted a reason to sit courtside at heat games!
Money will certainly make up for his stat line of 832 yards and 3TD’s in 2013. Can’t wait for his press conference declaring the Dolphins a title contender. Boatloads of cash + South Beach, the truth behind the move.
They got a #2, now they need a #1 WR
Wait til he has play anywhere north in Dec, he ain’t so fast then
Overrated
The Fish are now a solid second place team.
Congrats on the money and say bye-bye to the hof.
Hopefully he doesn’t drop the pen when he signs the deal.
Now all the Dolphins need is a QB who can throw a deep ball. Tannehill threw one of the ugliest deep balls I’ve seen in a while. If you want proof, look at the Seattle game and how bad he missed hartline TWICE
5yrs 65mil….Can you say overpaid?
Has anyone ever watched a Steelers game? “One route”? Unless you’re clinically blind, that’s sort of an irresponsibly naive comment to go throwing around.
so who gets 17?
And the Steelers continue their downward spiral. There ya go Steelers, There ya go.
8-8 will be a hurdle for you next year.
Enjoy it. You’ve earned it.
That’s a lot of money for a dead 60 Minutes anchor. They would’ve been better off poaching his son from Fox News
Let’s be perfectly honest. Another speed receiver is getting paid for a career year he had a season or two ago. Are you 5ft 10, speedy, have a bad attitude, and a big mouth? The NFL would like to make you a millionaire.
Man, who let out the inmates at the mental institution today?
GOOD! Serves ‘em both right.
Despite only perfecting one route.
Fastest player in the league, decent hands if you ignore last year (the reason he is going to miami I would speculate). Good luck Wallace.
My guess is, he is back in Pittsburgh in 5 yrs for half what Pitt payed him last year.
As a Vikings fan, I just want to thank the Dolphons for saving us a ton of money. Wallace is no Fitzgerald or Megatron. Those guys are the on ly ones worth that type of money.
I would love the sour grapes on here to identify the receiver on their teams who had 32 TDS in their first 4 seasons. Exactly, crickets!!!
Wallace’s contract will be salary cap-friendly in the first year, costing maybe between $5-7 million against the cap.

He and his at least $50m will enjoy any potential mediocrity just fine thank you
Thank god….. The idiot is out of the Burg. Look out next Reed from the Ratbirds is going to the 9ers……..Baltimore is done
see ya loser have fun in the sun. Mikey you might be rich but you will never have a ring.
Terrible hands and he runs one route. Enjoy miami!
Dan Marino just announced he’s coming out of retirement.
great pick up! wallace/hartline/bess not looking so bad right now @ wr. now go get a playmaking te
I heard they gave him $65M for 5 years. $13M/year.
I repeat myself, “Suckers!”
Or in the words of Fred G Sanford, “You big Dummies”
I’m a pompous loser on ProFootballTalk who isn’t posting a redundant comment like “Mike Wallace only has one move”.
That one move averages about 8 touchdowns and 1,000+ yards per season.
All these negative comments are ridiculous. I will gladly pay for a 26 year old WR who averages 1,000 yards, 17.2 YAC, and 8 TDs PER SEASON. Say what you want about his routes, the production is there. Facts don’t lie people.
He wanted to go to a Warm Climate,eh?
Dolphons Play @ Jets, @ N.E, @ Buffalo and this year are at Cleveland and @ Pitt.
Nice going Wallace.
Jennings is a better fit for the Vikings because of his YAC.
5 year, $65m deal. $30m guaranteed.
Not unhappy the Vikings didn’t try to top that.
AWESOME!!!

———————————————
Those were overthrows, hartline doesn’t have the spped to catch up to those passes. BIG difference. Geez I love all the Fin haters coming out of the woodwork. All that is needed to be known is the Dolphins just signed the number 1 free agent, the times are changin in Miami.
Plz don’t delete!! Steelers are going down hill at an unsafe rate ! sorry for those Rooneyz next yr they will have top 10 pick hopefully Gm signs elsewhere too
Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, and Davone Bess. That is a scary WR trio. Now if the Phins can land a seem threat TE via free agency or the draft that entire offense will be scary good!
THANK GOD THE VIKINGS DIDN’T OVER PAY HIM THANKS GODDDDDDD
I’m glad Wallace received the money he is looking for and even happier he is out of Pittsburgh. I hope Pittsburgh gets a big, strong and fast receiver who can force defenses to cover the full field. Good luck Wallace and thanks for all the good memories…
Vikings fan wishing Wallace the best in Miami for 13 million a year! Better be some serious production..
only had good stats with big ben throwing to him. tannehill not so much!!!
@steelersforlife
Say what you want about Wallace but let’s see how your rapist QB plays this upcoming season without a players who stretches the field and takes defenders out of the box.
Can’t wait to see the contract numbers.
I guess now we’ll learn if Tannehill can play. I think he’s a project that may not pan out. I t should take the preseason and 2 real games to determine if he’s good or a mistake.
Some of these comments are hilarious. If Wallace had of signed elsewhere, we’d have heard that nobody wants to go to Miami.. They got played again… Arguably the #1 free agent decides to sign there, and the comments are, but he only runs one route… he got overpaid… lousy hands… lol…
3/12/2013: Signed a five-year, $65 million contract. contract. The deal contains $30 million guaranteed.
God, look at the jealousy out there! Solid pick up. Wallace, Hartline, Bess it’s now time to score!
Let’s get Cook, and Ed Reed for more picks!
Good riddance.
Maybe you can hold out of the Dolphins training camp while demanding Larry Fitzgerald money, ..again.
ESPN just reported that when he picked up the pen to sign the contract,,,,,,,,he dropped the pen.
I pray to god he doesnt take the number 19 seen at thats tannehills number.
@305phinphan
The Steelers won 2 Superbowls before he arrived (2000 era) and lost 1 with him. To me that means, he is irrelevant. His production will go down in Miami
1. Tannehill is no threat
2. No running game
3. Receiving corp, although much improved is average.
4. Dolphins just suck
Sorry! It is what it is.
Good riddance.
Maybe you can hold out of the Dolphins training camp while demanding Larry Fitzgerald money, ..again.
Nice signing Phins! Wallace’s production will be as important as the decoy he will often be playing in order to get Bess open underneath and Lamar Miller is a pretty good pass catcher out of the backfield. Go get a tight end with some speed and rotate him with Clay and the passing game will be scary for other teams to try to defend.
Wallace wasn’t top 20 in drops lol.. stop hating on him just because he left
I am sick of listening to all the losers on here about Mike Wallace. None of you have clue how he will get on with Tannehill, so just wait and see. Good for the dolphins finally spending some money.
The Dolphin fans couldn’t care less what the idiots on here think. Some of you have no clue what you are talking about.
Once again..Wallace benefitted from Big Ben Extending plays..the speed of Brown and Sanders occupying LBs and DBs over the middle and Heath Miller being Heath Miler..The scouting report is out on him already. Play him physical and always keep a Safety over the top..He wont dive or go up in coverage to fight for passes not perfectly thrown..he’s a true Diva. I won’t lie I’d rather have him with us but not for over 10m a year! Best of luck Mike with a 2nd year QB..hope to see you this year down the line
Just reported, when Mike picked the pen to sign the contract, he dropped it
The AFC Least needs a lot more players from the AFC North than just Mike Wallace to be competitive. No wonder the Patriots win their division every year, then go no where. I thought it was just the Taping jinx, but it is also the weak AFC Least.
money, climate and scenery are all great in Miami enjoy them all Mike b/c you’ll never sniff the super bowl again
Dude got paid
Is that “one trick” that Steelers fans are talking about the ability to create space on offense to allow the rest of the offense to do whatever they want? Sure I will take that trick all day long.
Looks like the Steeler Nation is pretty pissed off at this. Looks like the Dolphins made out.
Tannehill threw one of the ugliest deep balls I’ve seen in a while.
Dude. Tannehill had one of the better % in the deep ball throws last year. Yes, he missed several but you missed the mark with your comment.
Its a great move and what the haters do not know is that last season,Ryan Tannehill was extremely accurate when taking deep shots downfield. On attempts of 20 yards or longer toward the right sideline,Tannehill had a quarterback rating of 108.7,according to Pro Football Focus. Tannehill had a rating of 101.7 on deep middle attempts of at least 20 yards. He struggled slightly on deep passes near the left sideline with a 72.7 rating.
That should only improve with what wallace brings to the table and our new tight end. Also having tannehill with a yearr of experience. Exciting times phin fans
Everyone is missing the real issue here…… What number is he going to change to!
I’m not sure what are worse, Pittsburgh fans or Boston fans when it comes to “Ogh no longer on my team? Well you sucked anyway!” overreaction. Pathetic.
The Dolphins don’t have to pay Tannehill franchise $$ yet as he is under his rookie deal. I think Miami overpaid but we will see.
flash1283,
As a fan of the other AFCE team stating that the Fish are now a solid second place team is insulting to the Dolphins. At this point the Bills and especially the Jets are possibly top five draft teams come 2014
Ok let me sum up this thread so far
Steelers Fans say good riddance = Sour Grapes
Most Self -Appointed GM’s say “one trick pony” = one heck of a trick! It is now Fins 11 Offense against 10 Defense, gotta keep that Safety overtop
The other 30 Teams Fans ” we overpaid” = really, 32 Touchdowns in 4 years. I bet if YOUR Team signed him you would not be writing. See Steelers
Like it or not… Miami is going back to the top of the NFL. Football is cyclic.
One trick pony? Dont care cause the one trick is hard to find in the nfl. And to all the steeler fans who think they dont need him theres a reason why they offered wallace a 10 mil a year contract at the start of the year.
Good for the fish!! Glad it was not the Vikes. OVERPRICED WALLACE The Vikes don’t need a one trick pony
Alriiiiiight Miami!!!
I don’t think the Dolphins really had any serious competition for Wallace. That should make you wonder… gee… was…he…really…worth… that…much?
Lots of red flags and questions about his motivation after getting paid.
It only $6m guaranteed, so its not the end of the world, but don’t think its enough for the Fins to finish ahead of the Patriots in their division, which is what matters.
Seems to me you can pick up a Mike Wallace type one-trick pony in the draft for a lot less.
Dolphins wanted to make a splash in FA though- needed to really if you look at tickets sales, stadium funding, etc. I guess they got what they wanted.
Now sign Jared Cook and draft Tavon Austin. Enough weapons for T-Hill
With Wallace – a young Bob Hayes – Dolphins are going to the Superbowl.
SUFFER BABY!
can someone tell me what #1 f/a don’t get over paid?
Good luck Mike. You had a good run in Pittsburgh and deserved to get paid. I, as a Steelers fan, don’t truly believe he’s a one-trick pony. I do, however, believe he was distracted last year in Pittsburgh due to the contract situation.
Miami got a heck of a wide receiver and I wish them well.
GO STEELERS!
Maybe some of you don’t watch football, but Mike Wallace is pretty good, just an FYI. Bitter Steelers fans holding on to the past like it was their wallet. So sad.
“In yet another sign that the most-expected, least-surprising move of the offseason will come to fruition…”
Hilarious, Darin apparently ignores/doesn’t read Florio either because he’s been saying, “the Dolphins are getting played, Wallace wants to get paid” at every opportunity he can.
Hope he can regain his form from 2011. He’s a dynamic talent and fun to watch when his head is in it. If he plays like last year the Dolphins are going to regret this day for a very long time. A ton of pressure is now on him to live up to this deal.
How many times do I have to tell you a dolphin is a mammal not a fish. Dolphins swim with fish & eat fish and can’t breath air through water like fish rather they have a hole in their head to breath & hold their breath underwater. No wonder you guys have only been able to put together one winning season in the last 9 years since you don’t even know what you are. No thanks to you hopefully Wallace doesn’t think he’s about to sign with fish, otherwise he’ll have an identity crisis like the lot of you & won’t have half a chance this year again.
Steeler fan here.
My only negative on Mike is he seemed to give up and pout a lot when, in a career year, he should have aimed for the pro bowl.
I can only hope a change in scenery does him some good, and I hope the ‘fins get their money’s worth.
I will never forget that slant he ran last year, for like 8,952 yards or something. Didn’t stop until he hit the parking lot! Hehe
Mike got his Larry Fitz money. That’s all he was worried about since the day the Steelers got him. It’s not about Championships or who’s throwing to him or the team. It’s always been all about the money with Mike.
Congratulations Mike! You got what you wanted with Miami. The money, the money and the money.

thank you for wasting 5 seconds of my life that I will never get back…
I’ve watched Wallace play every game of his pro career and no way this chump’s the 3rd best WR in the NFL. Miami over-paid a TON and they’ll pay for it for years to come. Dude only runs straight, has chicken arms, and has a piss poor attitude. Openly stated he loses focus/ interest during games if he’s not involved early. Clearly another diva like TO.
Good riddance, Wallace. Hope Miami enjoys hosting the next chapter of your Divadom.
He took his talent to south beach. Steelers fan are going to burn his jersey too? Also send him death threats? I did not watch many dolphins games but the ones I did, it seemed like there was always a receiver open but QB just did not have time to throw the ball. I would think they would have kept Long and put Martin at RT. But Im not the owner. Btw Lets see how many people jump on the dolphins bandwagon. HTTR!!!
Censored again. What a shock
And you’re playing limit the words, too. How cute.
If I posted as ravenator and pretended to be semi-literate, I could post at will. Sad.
Congrats to Wallace, he got his payday. Would’ve been nice to keep him in the burgh, but not at that price. He does open up the field for others, no doubt. Hart line probably has a great season. And it’s not fair to say he only had one route, he had 2, the go and the bubble screen. But going across the middle was definitely not his thing.
who cares about wallace’s shoddy route running? no current NFL cb can consistently run with him down the field. anyhow, thanks for taking your talents to south beach
- joe haden
pittsburgh has the worst receiving in the NFL. Antonio Brown, Plax, Heath Miller is the only decent option and he’s fragile.
At least the Ravens still have Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones. 8-8 will be a hurdle for pittsburgh next season.
