Packers restructure Jolly’s deal, an indication he might stay

The Packers haven’t declared that they’re bringing Johnny Jolly back, but they just made it easier to swallow if they did.

When Jolly was suspended in 2010 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, he had been tendered a $2.521 million contract as a restricted free agent. Since that contract tolled during his suspension, the Packers retained his rights.

Now, according to Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, that deal has been restructured to $715,000, a transaction that was completed yesterday.

The 30-year-old Jolly was reinstated last month, after spending six months in prison on felony possession of codeine charges.

The fact they went to the trouble to submit paperwork could be an indication the Packers are willing to give him another chance, one that won’t cost them much.
