Ravens bring back Reed (no, not that one)

The Ravens finished up a smaller piece of business, and have a bigger one on deck before this afternoon.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens signed wide receiver David Reed to a two-year contract, which will be worth up to $2.5 million and includes $500,000 in signing bonus.

That’s important in that it comes in less than the $1.3 million they’d have needed to tender him as a restricted free agent, saving them some cap space.

They’ll need that for the offer they’re preparing for linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, which they’re going to hand him prior to the 4 p.m. start of free agency.

While Ellerbe figures to be a hot target, the Ravens held off with their offer, probably to keep it from being used as leverage over weekend during the legal tampering window.

We’ll see later today whether their strategy was worth it, or whether Ellerbe’s head was turned by the interest from others.

They have a number that they are willing to pay Ellerbe that they think is fair. If he wants to get more they will let him walk, trading Boldin proved that.

Ratbird front office is a mess! I’ve never seen a team win a super bowl and deteriorate so fast! It’s fascinating!

Every year people doubt the Ravens moves and they continue bringing the players they want at their price. Perennial contenders, best FO in the game.

I’m sure the #1 defense in the league the Pittsburgh Steelers are trembling in their shoes over this signing! This guy is a backup on 30 other teams! What a mess this team is! It’s hilarious to watch it crumble. From 1st to worst!

Looks like the GM will have to overpay some people to get them to come to Baltimore- seems like the people who know the team and franchise are all leaving.

He’s only going to play special teams, geez you guys are dumb. They will address wide receiver in free agency and/or the draft. Get some sense.
