Report: Bears interested in Martellus Bennett

The Giants haven’t been able to come to an agreement with tight end Martellus Bennett and if that remains the case for the next half-hour, Bennett will become an unrestricted free agent.

The Bears are reportedly one of the teams that would like to see that happen. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears have expressed interest in Bennett, who is coming off a very productive season with the Giants. He had 55 catches for 626 yards and five touchdowns while also providing the team with strong blocking in the run game.

Chicago didn’t get anything close to that from their tight ends last season and they’ve long been expected to target upgrades on Kellen Davis once free agency gets underway. Bennett will likely draw interest from other teams and the Bears also reportedly have interest in Jared Cook, whose lack of a franchise tag from the Titans has made him one of the bigger names at the position on the free agent market.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News has also heard that the Bears may also be interested in Giants guard Kevin Boothe. Signing both away from the Giants would leave the Jersey side with a couple of big holes to fill up front.

he only goes to the Bears if the Eagles allow him to go to the Bears. The Eagles get what they want

I’m sure the Bears are interested in all the Free Agents…let me know when one signs the dotted line.

Doesn’t surprise me. Reese is the best talent evaluator in the NFL. Nobody pulls talent from obscurity better. Boothe from Colgate, Cruz from UMass, Linval Joseph from ECU, Blackburn from Akron, AB from Marshall, Jacobs from Southern Illinois, the list goes on and on.

It’s the reason why Giants’ FAs are always the most sought after. It’s also the reason why I pray they extend Cruz already.

Bennett and Boothe has a nice ring to it…As would Long and Levitre.

How the Mike Martz “Era” has sure hurt this team in the long run! Where are you Greg Olsen?

Brandon Marshall + 3rd rd draft pick>Greg Olsen by far.

That is one of the all-time best value trades in the history of the league, what are you smoking?

I guess the eagles have never wanted to win a Super Bowl then, huh???

    “Should have kept Greg Olsen.”

Anyone involved in the trading of Greg Olsen got the boot.

Can’t really blame the current Bears personal for that decision.

Brandon Marshall had nothing to do with the Greg Olsen trade. Olsen was traded away for a 3rd rounder only a few years after being a 1st round pick. Marshall was acquired for two 3rd rounders.

These so-called “reports” have the Bears interested in EVERYBODY, so far. The fact of the matter is, after tagging Melton, and paying Tillman and Peppers, the Bears don’t have a lot of cap room to sign anybody

    OK, to clarify:

1 of the 2 3rd rounders traded for Brandon Marshall was directly due to trading Greg Olsen to the Panthers, so I guess he DID have something to do with acquiring Brandon Marshall after all .

The Bears would not have re-signed Olsen at the salary he was asking for due to the missing production on the field. They would be signing him for his future potential. He went on to accomplish more of the same in Carolina, so they basically got a 3rd round draft pick in exchange for 1 year of sub-par blocking and 4 touchdowns. Do you get your football info from Bleacher Report?

Greg Olsen at roughly $5 million plus a 3rd round pick <<<<<<< Brandon Marshall at $9 mil.
