The Giants haven’t been able to come to an agreement with tight end Martellus Bennett and if that remains the case for the next half-hour, Bennett will become an unrestricted free agent.

The Bears are reportedly one of the teams that would like to see that happen. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Bears have expressed interest in Bennett, who is coming off a very productive season with the Giants. He had 55 catches for 626 yards and five touchdowns while also providing the team with strong blocking in the run game.

Chicago didn’t get anything close to that from their tight ends last season and they’ve long been expected to target upgrades on Kellen Davis once free agency gets underway. Bennett will likely draw interest from other teams and the Bears also reportedly have interest in Jared Cook, whose lack of a franchise tag from the Titans has made him one of the bigger names at the position on the free agent market.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News has also heard that the Bears may also be interested in Giants guard Kevin Boothe. Signing both away from the Giants would leave the Jersey side with a couple of big holes to fill up front.
