Seattle’s window for a championship is open so they had to make this type of move. Its more than I thought Vikes might get so I’ll take it. As versatile as he is I don’t think he is what they want in their offense anyway, but we’ll miss him as a kickoff returner. I am sure Spielman and Frazier have a plan – now they just have to execute it – Go Vikes!

Either he’s been slicin onions for the last several hours or he just got done smoking a celebratory something or other.

At the end of the day…today ,I say too much.. Yes, he could be great but you have to look at his body of work . I don’t have a clue on his college career but he was a first round pick. His pro numbers…? not so great. How about durability ? Hmmmmm….???Team chemistry you ask ? hahahahaha. O.k,. how about his respect for the coaches,his team mates,coachability ? Then you lock him in to a huge contract and you have to wonder how you motivate a player like this ? Percy can shut everyone up and play ball . If I’m a Seahawks fan I’d be stoked but would hope there are major incentives in Harvin’s contract. Too many question marks on this guy to give up the picks AND major bank.

There are no guarantees. The list of big-money trades that went bad is a long one. Just as long a first-round picks that didn’t work out. The only difference is the money….

When no one else offers more than a 2nd rounder for Harvin, I’d agree, the Vikes went back to the well in Seattle. Speilman called Carroll and said, “Pete, the 49′rs are offering a #2 and we’re gettin’ ready to pull the trigger”, after Pete changed pants at the thought of Harvin goin’ to the 49′rs he offered the bank.

There were several teams that were interested in Harvin but none offered more than a 2nd rd. draft pick so when Seattle offered what they did…..you can’t blame the Vikings for pouncing. The Pats, Eagles and Vikings are probably the best when it comes to getting great value in trades. If you’ve paid attention, the Vikes seem to have the Seahawks on speed dial when it comes to wanting to dump a player….Burleson, Sid Rice, Tavaris Jackson none who ever worked out and now Harvin who’s mecurial ways will surface in due time. Meanwhile, the Vikes pulled a fast one on the Hawks when they pulled the poison pill with Steve Hutchinson who played at All Pro level for 5-6 years for the Vikes. Seahawks might want to get a new unlisted number.

I think the Vikings knew they were going to trade Harvin when they put him on IR.

Spielman got a ransom for Harvin. Basically Seattle paid the 3 draft picks to pay Harvin more than Wallace- without the draft picks.

From the Vikings standpoint, a first round pick is a ticket to an impact player for cheap. Plus they have the salary cap they would have devoted to Harvin for other player(s). And a 3rd and a 7th rounder to boot.

Building through the draft, picking quality, high-character players isn’t gonna make a splash. But it will make a high-quality team year-in and year-out.

While we won’t know the winner of this deal until Harvin and whoever and Vikings draft with the picks they received take the field, I think this might be a rare deal where both teams end up winning.

All things considered, I think the Vikings scored big on this deal. They know they are still in rebuild mode and the will be able to sign the #1 and # pick for considerably less than what it would’ve taken to sign Harvin. Other side of the coin is the fact of Harvin being a malcontent no matter where he has played, Pop Warner, Florida and Minny. Harvin will behave this year with his new contract but in year 2 and 3 he will find something to pout about and that’s when the fun will begin for Carroll and the Hawks
