Steelers keep David Johnson

The Steelers have re-signed tight end / fullback David Johnson to a one-year contract, Bob Labriola of Steelers Digest reported Tuesday.

Johnson missed the 2012 season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in August.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Johnson has primarily served as a blocker for Pittsburgh. He has appeared in 47 games, starting 24 times and catching 18 passes for 146 yards and one touchdown. He was the Steelers’ final pick in the 2009 NFL Draft (No. 241).

  1. I hope its a vet min deal and hopefully hes cut in camp…nothing against johnson, but i dont think he adds anything the team needs at all. He may be able to fill in as 2nd or 3rd TE as heath recovers, but hopefully thats it

  2. Yeah..was sad to see him go dwn with the knee.. But he has stone hands and we have a real FB now..but he is a better blocker then Pope or Paulson. More then likely its the Vet Minimum

  3. Sigh … can’t complain about the Steelers’ long-term record of success with Colbert. But it sure would be fun to read about something more interesting in our free-agent signings than a one-year contract for David Johnson.

  4. The Steelers should try to pry D Pitta from the Ravens. They’d have to give up a 2nd rd pick but they can’t rely on Heath past next yr anyway. Pitta is a $2M hit – pretty cheap for 1 yr. They need to dump Pope, & Paulson is still playing on a cheap rookie contract.

  5. Good to see that even after winning the Super Bowl, the Ravenator is still completely obssessed with the Steelers. I guess when you’re the gold standard, all others can’t help but keep looking to you!
