Vikings could jump into the Amendola derby

With the Vikings trading Percy Harvin and missing on an opportunity to trade for Anquan Boldin and not jumping in to the Mike Wallace sweepstakes, the Vikings could be looking elsewhere for help at receiver.

The list is now believed to include Rams receiver Danny Amendola.

With Jerome Simpson re-signed, there’s less of a need for a deep threat.  But the slot receiver position is now lacking, with all due respect to Jarius Wright.

  1. If the Chip Kelly wanted him, he would be an Eagle. But he was undeserving. Move on to the scrapheap .

  2. I’d rather save our money and spend it elsewhere, no-one can replace Percy and Wright will be fine. He showed promising signs last year. I’ll take Jennings if the price is right.

  3. “With Jerome Simpson re-signed, there’s less of a need for a deep threat.” LOL!

Really? If you believe that, you didn’t watch the Vikings plays this past season.

  5. Give the G men your newly aquired first rounder and take Cruz then get a DT in either FA or the draft

  6. I doubt that this will happen, but it is still unclear to me why the Vikes wouldn’t make a big offer to Victor Cruz and give the Giants their original first rounder. Cruz is an ultra-productive slot receiver who can also play outside, tough (not prone to injury), and seemingly a great team player. He would likely cost about the same as Harvin, but without the diva act or the missed games.

The Giants are too close to the cap to be able to match an incentive-laden deal the Vikes could afford (unfortunate that they can no longer do a poison pill deal now like they used to get Hutchinson, as that would make it much easier).

Cruz is from the NYC area and likely really wants to stay with the Giants, but he probably wants a long-term deal in the $8-10 mill/year range even more.

Jennings would be fine, but he’s a short-term fix. Cruz would help Ponder and the team a lot more and for a lot longer.

  7. I disagree Mike.
    Just the opposite IMHO.

Simpson has proven to be a wholly UNRELIABLE “deep” threat, and seems to drop just about everything thrown to him in traffic.

Jarius Wright is still unproven, but honestly I think his skills, speed and talent are actually going to surpass Amendola, and I truly believe that the “slot” receiver is the LAST thing the Vikings Need.

They need TRUE #1 receiver who can run deep routes and intermediate stuff.

I hope the Vikes don’t get Amendola WITHOUT getting another big body wide out for the side opposite of Simpson.

Unless they are hoping for a miracle recovery for Greg Childs….

  9. Amendola is an injury-prone nothing. 5.9 yards per target and 7 touchdowns for his career. In his “good” season he had 6.6 YPT and 3 scores on 101 passes thrown his way. I thought the point was to make the team better. If Spielman is disappointed that they aren’t picking 3rd again and wants to get back there then he should go ahead and sign him.
