Getty ImagesThe safety position in Minnesota was bolstered last year by the arrival of rookie Harrison Smith. Overlooked was the performance of fellow starter Jamarca Sanford.
The front office didn’t overlook it. Sanford, who started 13 games last year and 15 the year before, has returned to the team.
Benched for Mistral Raymond at the start of the 2012 season, Sanford seized the job after Raymond suffered an ankle injury in Week Three.
Per a league source, Raymond signed a two-year deal. He arrived via round seven of the 2009 draft.

Good deal for the Vikings. Solid safety and special teams player.
Good for Sanford. Glad they brought him back because his play last year earned it. If he doesn’t start at safety he is still one hell of a special teams player
Jamarca me happy they resigned Loadholt
Was hoping to get Ed Reed.
He played better last year on defense, but special teams is still his forte. Hopefully his play as a safety continues to improve.
I don’t quite understand why they waited until today to sign all their own FA’s, unless the players wanted to use the last 3-day permitted collusion period to gauge their worth.
I swore I posted on this yesterday about how a story about Sanford doesn’t say what HE signed for but it tells us about Raymonds contract. Am I being censored?
