Cardinals continue shopping spree with DB help

AP

The Cardinals are doing their best to catch up with the Dolphins and Colts and Eagles for bulk signings, and they’re doing it with guys they’re familiar with.

In addition to the previously reported signings of running back Rashard Mendenhall, quarterback Drew Stanton and linebacker Lorenzo Alexander (and the release of safety Kerry Rhodes), the team has announced the additions of cornerback Jerraud Powers and safety Yeremiah Bell.

Powers was with head coach Bruce Arians in Indianapolis last year, and Bell has background with defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

While not big names, they are the kind of solid signings that can help a new staff spread a message, and that’s often as important as raw talent.

  1. These are some good solid signings. But how good is yet to be known till we see the dollar amounts. The Cards still need to find a 3-4 run stopping ILB & pass rushing OLB.

  2. Oh, the NFC West is going to be interesting this year. I am happy about the changes the Cardinals are making. I don’t care what anyone says, Mendenhall is an upgrade from Wells and LSH. Can’t wait for the season to start.

  3. sorry to tell u cardinals fans, but Powers isnt very good, hes small and get beat alot and is very injury proned, we got the better DB in Toler that we signed yesterday, cheers!!!

  4. Tough to get excited about any of that talent, but I guess they have to look like they’re trying. Silly to sign players just because you coached them years ago.

  5. I’m originally from Oklahoma, but I live in Phoenix. I had tried really hard to get into the Cardinals, but it makes it tough in a city like Phoenix. People who are from Phoenix don’t even really watch the Cardinals. I wish they would put together a decent decade or two, rather than a decent season or two a decade. Maybe that’ll stoke Phoenix to the Cardinals a little more.

I know it’ll never be like the Sooners, but I wouldn’t mind it if it was at least like the Cowboys. Right now, Cardinals fans are more like the Golden Hurricane fans than either the Cowboys or especially my Sooners.
