The Cardinals will release free safety Kerry Rhodes, a league source told PFT’s Mike Florio on Wednesday.

Per Rotoworld.com financial figures, Rhodes was slated to make $5.5 million in 2013 ($4.5 million in salary, $1 million in bonus).

Rhodes, 30, notched 67 tackles and intercepted four passes in 2012 for Arizona.

The Cardinals will have new starters at both safety spots in 2013. Last week, they parted ways with long-time strong safety Adrian Wilson.

Come over to the Broncos! We need more depth in our defensive secondary. Four INTs sounds pretty nice.

I’m betting he joins his previous DC in CLE

I got the Wilson release. He was getting old and made a lot of money. Rhodes has been a good player the last couple of years. I’m not sure why we cut him.

Remember when Rhodes and Wilson were two of the better safeties in the NFL? These two have fallen off significantly the last few years.

  7. flavordave says: Mar 13, 2013 5:25 PM

Good he cant cover DeSean or Maclin. The Cards recognized this and are making an attempt to fix it. Chip Kelly will dominate.

  8. dwoofer says: Mar 13, 2013 5:25 PM

It was that lousy performance in the Eagles game last season that convinced the geniuses in Cardinals management to cut Rhodes.

    Chargers.

    Cmon Telesco… Rock n Roll.

Cards are certainly going for younger. I could see the Adrian Wilson move given his age, diminished role… this is tough as Rhodes really played well for Arizona.

    texans we need a safety

  15. theauger says: Mar 13, 2013 5:30 PM

He played well last year & during his time in AZ. It’s a buyers market for DB(s) in 2013 & $6 mil was too much to pay for his final season when you can get younger for cheaper for longer.

  16. jaewest304 says: Mar 13, 2013 5:32 PM

Wow those guys both played well last year. Wilson especially with the injury he had.

  27. geeoh2k13 says: Mar 13, 2013 5:45 PM

So, when are we supposed to be getting better? Seems like we’ve taken multiple steps back, and a half step forward (signing Mendenhall)…

  28. nineroutsider says: Mar 13, 2013 5:48 PM

He would be a good fit in SF. That production level is on par with what Goldson did last year. Strange move by AZ.

  29. hqdeezy says: Mar 13, 2013 5:51 PM

The DB pool for free agents and draft prospects are deep this year!!

  30. thraiderskin says: Mar 13, 2013 5:55 PM

I’d sure like him in DC, but I doubt that will happen.

  31. lambo55 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:00 PM

This move makes no sense, he has been a solid fs since he joined the cards. I really hope that Arians and keim have have something already in the works to fill his spot.

  44. stephenolszewski says: Mar 13, 2013 8:20 PM

I wish the Browns would go after him, we need to put a good FS next to Ward

  45. bossbertozzi says: Mar 13, 2013 10:49 PM

Anyone else think that the picture looks like Kerry Rhodes is giving it to #22?
