Lost in this story is the fact the Dolphins made an offer to Wheeler last year but he chose the Raiders. You could also say the Fins learned from last year and would not be out-bid again.

You can’t make the players sign.

Others have already pointed out flaws in this comparison, but it’s also worth pointing out (although seemingly obvious) that last year is not this year.

Last year Wheeler was an unknown. Last year Dansby was a proven leader. Last year Miami was looking to see improvement from Misi and other young draft picks. Last year was Coyle’s first year as defensive coordinator and he was operating within a squad that he largely inherited from a failed regime.

This year Miami looks to be cycling out its older LBs for a young core that is in Coyle’s mold.

When he came to Oakland last year the expectations weren’t high after watching his higlights in Indy, but he was a different animal last year, does he worth 25milion? only if he is used as the Raiders did.

Wheeler was the lone bright spot last year on our lousy “D”. That being said, it doesn’t take much to be our “bright spot”.
I wish him well, but that contract will be over paid.
At least you can count on 100% effort every play with him.

Most of your comments are ignorant. First, the Fins saved aprox 7mil in cap space going younger at LBer. 2nd, Dansby and Kevin were excellent in coverage according to PFF. The new guys are better at attacking the QB, but younger legs gives them time to develop coverage better coverage skills. Omar Kelley has already highlighted this.

So let’s break this down.

Miami didn’t give him $1M last year. The Raiders did.

If Miami signs him to a 1 year deal last year,do they win the Super Bowl? No.

Is he worth $25M now? Maybe. Maybe not. But signing him last year to a 1 year deal would mean nothing right now. Yes, they didn’t sign him last year. Only the Raiders did. Means nothing now. Way to slant against the Dolphins…again…

We have to remember the are notorious at name singnins,but not scheme signings. I see a hole in the toilet and in its just waiting for the flushing of all that money. Im a raider fan and no way in hell Wheeler was worth that and ellerny really that much better then Dansby? As far as athleticism he had that hole pluggef pretty good and had a small cap issue but really all they did wad swap caliber for calliber for alot of money. Wait til 2014 rolls around for the cap hits they will take on. Cant wait for the ol tilet bowl flushing!

they had other needs and were real tight on cap space last year….. armando is looking for reasons to bash the front office as usual. wheeler did have a good season and miami couldnt cut dansby last year. lets all use some brain power here.

Another negative story on the Dolphins. The fact is EVERY person on the planet is pretty good at telling the story AFTER the fact. Here is an example… Victor Cruz went Unsigned. Does this mean all 32 Teams have a crappy front office?

Wheeler is considered one of the best OLB Pass Coverage guys in the NFL. He was also the best player on the Raiders Defense. K. Burnett was absolutely horrible at defending TE. In the AFC East we have a problem with the Pats TE’s, well and every other team. This was a great move! I think you Monday Morning GM’s are not factoring in that we shed to older LB’s that cost nearly the same and could not get the job done.

The Dolphions are always doomed with idiot comments that don’t follow the team. They pretty much sucked or were mediocre for adecade. If they did not sign Wallace yesterday, it would be “Dolphins missed out again”. Ireland is looking like a real GM. These all good moves. Not great, well because the you don’t judge a team in Marchm but a move nonetheless away from the annual 7-9 finsihes.

i loved wheeler and am upset we lost him but 26m over 5 is way too much…sometimes stats are deceptive…wheeler benefited (his tackles anyway) from an underperforming raider front 4.

That was an expensive mistake, no doubt about it.

The Raiders will miss Wheeler, the guy is a baller, he’s a 3 down, sideline to sideline LB with a great motor.
