Ed Reed to visit Texans

The Texans lost free safety Glover Quin to Detroit on Wednesday.

Now comes word they will be welcoming a surefire future Hall of Fame safety on a free-agent visit on Thursday.

The Texans will host free agent Ed Reed on Thursday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported.

Reed is the top unsigned safety on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100. He has played his entire career for the Ravens, but his future with Baltimore is unclear.

Reed is the greatest safety to ever play the game, and is a future first ballot HOF player. I can’t imagine Ed Reed in another uniform. Would be tough to stomach, hopefully he comes back to Baltimore but if he doesn’t I wish him luck anyway.

    When’s the visit to SF?!

  3. thetooloftools says: Mar 13, 2013 6:11 PM

The Ravens are suffering from Flaccoitis.

  4. jstreet1985 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:12 PM

    Is he playing quarterback?

  5. ravensfan19 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:13 PM

Not Surprising, he’s on the decline, we need to get Younger and replace him sooner or later. We will always Love Ed. Sad to see him not in a Ravens jersey but that’s football.

  6. lilrob10201 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:13 PM

Ed Reed would be a good addition for the Texans, but he is only a temporary replacement at that position.

  7. insman1017 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:14 PM

Come on Ed, retire a Raven like you’re supposed to…….Haven’t you made enough money in your career.

  8. sgruth33 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:14 PM

    Didnt see that coming…

  9. evrybdyhas1 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:15 PM

I wonder what the Ravens are doing and realize the defense was not that great last year. These old guys have a shelf life.

  10. thekingdave says: Mar 13, 2013 6:15 PM

I know Reed is in the twilight of his career, but this would be the biggest FA signing in team history. Don’t believe me? Look up past acquisitions.

  11. kelshannon19 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:16 PM

Hope Joe Flacco is happy. Lost all key players to pay his salary.

  12. bramirez071193 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:17 PM

Come to h-town ed even if its only for a year or 2 we need someone to sure up our secondary

  13. blackngold4life says: Mar 13, 2013 6:22 PM

Like Ray Lewis said today..Its not always the money..its about the friendships you make. When you see all ya friends being let go why stay?

  14. alonestartexan says: Mar 13, 2013 6:22 PM

Texans need to sign Reed and Nnamdi and they’re set..

  15. avoidtheboyd says: Mar 13, 2013 6:24 PM

He could still play his twilight years somewhere else and retire a Raven. It’s not unheard of. e.g: LT

  16. pbenner13 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:25 PM

Have we ever seen such a mass exodus from a Super Bowl winning team? Maybe everything wasn’t as rosey in Raven-land as it appeared.

  17. needle379 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:25 PM

Come Ed Rees lets reunite u with ur “The U” Teammate Andre Johnson

  18. bigwinintx says: Mar 13, 2013 6:26 PM

A warmer climate might be just what Reed needs!

  19. ravensallday2012 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:30 PM

Love Ed reed. But he is past his prime. Can’t tackle anymore and is afraid to hit because of injury. If he doesn’t come back to Baltimore we wish u the best and can’t wait to see u in canton

  20. baddorange says: Mar 13, 2013 6:37 PM

A bit on the wrong side in age
    He has slowed a bit.

  21. nite2al says: Mar 13, 2013 6:37 PM

As a Ravens fan, he should test the waters and get all the leverage he can…you guys just don’t get it, these players need to make as much money as they can with the punishment their bodies take.

Reed has a ring and I have no problem with him chasing money elsewhere. I am a Ravens fan, but I do understand the NFL is a business without much financial regard to the players, as with other pro sports.

  22. sbaltimore says: Mar 13, 2013 6:43 PM

Oh…and as far as Ed Reed is concerned? Stick a fork in him; he’s done.

  23. tjrogers09 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:45 PM

Texan’s should worry about getting a qb that can take them to the next level.

  24. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:46 PM

the texans better try to get all the help they can, cause luck and my colts are taking back the afc south once again, we only let u guys borrow it for 2 years, times up, playa!!!!

  25. parms684 says: Mar 13, 2013 6:52 PM

As a Raven fan I’m sad, but as a girl from Houston I would rather see him on the Texans than anyone else

  26. gonavybeatarmy says: Mar 13, 2013 6:55 PM

The Ravens have six players with an aggregate cap hit in 2014 of $71 million- Webb, Flacco, Suggs, Ngata, Yanda and Rice. It only gets worse next year.

  27. bleedpurplenblack says: Mar 13, 2013 6:56 PM

Putting Q aside, all of our “key” losses have been on the defensive side.. and breaking news bulletin here, we weren’t that good there to begin with.

We’ll still score points. We’ll still win games. We’ll still go to the postseason.

Reports of our demise… highly exaggerated.

  28. sdakota says: Mar 13, 2013 6:56 PM

tight cap, that’s what happens when you constantly draft good players

  29. modellforprez says: Mar 13, 2013 7:08 PM

somebody needs to sign this guy. 1st ballot hof, champ, best safety ever still cant get paid……

    ====================================

Flacco’s cap number is under 7 million this season, less then it was last season. By the time Flacco’s cap number spikes, Ed Reed will have retired from the NFL, same goes for Anquan Boldin. But lets not let facts get in the way…

woooow thats crazy, 4 players take up 80% of yr cap

  32. thetooloftools says: Mar 13, 2013 7:30 PM

Ed Reed would be a great addition to the Texans. He knows how to work and he knows how to win.
If I’m Houston, he does not get back on a plane without ink on a contract. Some of these proven winner players need to be getting paid for leadership skills as well.
I’m not a Houston/Ed Reed fan, but Houston is so close to really making BIG playoff noise.

  33. wirelessguy22 says: Mar 13, 2013 7:48 PM

Guess we’re going to see how good Joey Flacco REALLY is…..take all those avg. players and make them appear one notch higher.

He really did a good job of that the first 4.5 years in the league……pleeease.

Rice up them middle is going back in.

  34. bronconation623 says: Mar 13, 2013 7:51 PM

he needs to go to broncos manning needs to restucture his contract so we can help our defense get better still top five d but we need a playmaker like reed

  35. bronconation623 says: Mar 13, 2013 7:54 PM

  40. yourteamstinks says: Mar 13, 2013 8:33 PM

Is this the Baltimore Ravens or the Florida Marlins?

  41. ravenseattheirownpoop says: Mar 13, 2013 8:34 PM

    Polamalu>Reed

peyton will NEVER restructure his deal!!!

  43. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 13, 2013 9:33 PM

too bad the texans has ol stone face SCHAUB

  44. crownofthehelmet says: Mar 13, 2013 9:51 PM

@randallfail, Ed Reed hasn’t even the best safety in the AFCN North during his career. So how could he possibly be the best ever.

I expect this nonsense from ravenator.

  45. cbass59 says: Mar 13, 2013 9:56 PM

The difference between Polamalu and Reed is Troy can stuff the run. Reed is afraid to tackle RBs and plays centerfield. Troy is a complete safety. Reed knows how to pad his numbers.

Look for highlights of run stuffing. You won’t see any from Reed. You see plenty from Troy.

  46. bullsonparade2399 says: Mar 13, 2013 10:03 PM

    Instant upgrade!

  47. capesquad says: Mar 13, 2013 10:06 PM

Enjoy your visit in Houston Ed…. then get on a plane and come to NE. We got a lot of young players that are in dire need of your leadership.

  48. joldewurtel says: Mar 13, 2013 10:08 PM

Living in baltimore, I might be in the minority on this, but I wouldn’t be all that upset if Reed left… This isn’t the same Ed Reed from a few years back. Maybe it’s his neck injuries, but he can’t tackle ANYTHING and he’s at a point in his career where his overly aggressive chance taking for picks is now actually a detriment to the team. He takes way too many chances that he just doesn’t have the physical ability to make up for anymore…

  49. easternshoremd says: Mar 15, 2013 8:16 AM

Ed Reed should finish a Raven. There should be veteran exceptions with the cap to keep guys like Urlacher and Reed with their teams. Even if it was an extreme amount if years like 10 with the same franchise.
