If his coverage skills suck so much, why did the team franchise him the year before? Are they smart now but stupid a year ago?

Also Whitner was the safety getting torched time and again in the Super Bowl, not Goldson. I watched the game again last week and every time there was a big play or a TD, ol’ number 31 was out of position or late. Congratulations, you now have zero safeties.

The Niners have a history of developing players and the coaching staff make them look great. Look at all the pro-bowlers and all-pro players they have. Once they leave the Niners, they are never to be heard again. The Niners never overpay for players, and resign their own players with the right value. The fact that the Niners did not even attempted to offer that much tells you something: Goldson is not worth that much.

It’s not a statement, it’s a fact ha. I don’t need to look at his stats, watch his games. He’s great in run support, but he’s overly aggressive in coverage which can cause him to be a liability at times, ie. the NFC championship game. The guy is great and I love him, but he is no where near worth what the Bucs paid for him. He’s a $5/mil a year guy at most. I personally think he benefitted from all the other All-Pros on the 49ers defense, but we will see. Wish him the best on the Bucs though.

Picks dont mean you can cover, and covering doesnt mean you can pick it off.

Keenan lewis has the most passes defenses in the league last year (or maybe 2nd most), but be only had 1 or no picks.

Asante samuel is great at picking the ball off, but he is not good at coverage.

So maybe goldson is good at picks, not at coverage…nothing to be butt hurt over.
