Getty ImagesThe Dolphins had money to spend on linebackers, but not for the guy they spent the first pick in the 2008 Draft on.
Now, Jake Long has a new home, as Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports Long has agreed to a contract with the Rams.
While that might now start a chain reaction of line moves, it gives Sam Bradford the kind of protection he’s lacked.
If Long holds up physically, it’s potentially a good move for the Rams, though the Dolphins were apparently concerned about that being the case. That clears the way for the Dolphins to move Jonathan Martin to left tackle after a year on the right.

Roger’s going to be mad…….
The dolphins have had a good first few days of free agency but with the rams getting a big play tight end and a franchise LT they’ve done just as good if not better.
congratulations to the Rams. He only goes there because the Eagles Deems him unworthy. Eagles offense Oline is back healthy and stronger than ever
Bad day for Dolfans. Martin is a creampuff compared to Jake. Good thing we re-signed Matt Moore. The downgrade continues…
I had hoped the Falcons were going to sign Long and let Baker walk.
Staying healthy is his only concern. He is still very talented and Paul Boudreau is one of if not the best O line coaches in the league
Look out, the Rams are looking to ram it in there in ’13.
let the “injuries” begin
Funny cause beat writer is claiming Long is still taking a physical and terms haven’t been discussed yet.
NFC west easily takes the next superbowl
Jake Long – who is hopeless damaged goods – has pulled the great train robbery on the Rams.
Funny…The St. Louis papers don’t even have the story yet. Funny but not surprising.
I’m sure they had to overpay, but they HAD to do something to try to keep Sam Bradford upright.
They had to do something and they’re probably just out of reach of the top 3 OTs in the draft at #16 overall.
Thanks STL. Long has played very poorly the last 2 years and is living of REP alone at this point. Good luck, just don’t be surprised when you are watching him get bullrushed by 250 pound ends.
Playing in that turf, Jake will make it 8 games. Not a bad payday for 1/2 a season
Did the Sun-Sentinel pull their story?
Now go get Pollard at the safety spot and fill everything else thru the draft.
I’m curious as to what he is going to be getting paid. It sucks for the Dolphins to lose a key player at a very important position, but if the money he got is close to what he was asking for then it had to be done. If he got signed for a reasonable contract that would hurt the fins.
Jake Long has one arm and was demanding “at least” $10 million.
Why do you think the Dolphins were reluctant to pay him $15 million? That would have killed Miami’s cap.
The report is incorrect. He hasnt signed with Rams…yet
Jake was worth about 7-8 Million to the Dolphins. Probably got the 10-11 mark from the Rams, they needed him pretty badly.
The Nfc West takes the next superbowl because Jake Long signed with stl.? Lol comedy
Pollard please!
Roger Saffold wants a trade
This is exactly why the Dolphins fans should of kept mouth shut after signing a couple of players
Long didnt fit the scheme, but martin is not the answer either, phins should have traded long in the preseason
Long hasnt signed yet.
Jake Long can play!if you think he can’t ,try going around him . Can’t question someone’s strength that is that large either. Just hope he can fit in
Omar stick to doing your job writing articles…not breaking false info he thinks he works for ESPN
