The article said,

“He MAY have found one team that’s at least WILLING to listen.

Young is in talks with the Raiders about VISITING them for a workout, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport cautioned that THOSE TALKS ARE “PRELIMINARY,” so WE’RE PROBABLY NOT GOING TO BE SEEING YOUNG IN SILVER AND BLACK ANYTIME SOON.

If you’re going to get your panties in a knot, at least wait until you have a reason.

As a Titan fan, though drafting him third overall deems him a bust, he played well at times. The 99-yd game-winning drive against the Cardinals was amazing. His NFL career is most likely over, but I hope he can turn it around and be successful somewhere, awful money manager though he may be.

Uhm… scratching head in confusion… VY quit on the Titans. Went completely off the reservation and his career was never the same after. While Carson may not have a high win percentage, he is a professional who shows up in the film room and works everyday. Vince probably can’t even spell the phrase “offensive formations”

Um didn’t Carson Palmer quit on the Bengals? Didn’t he demand a trade in the middle of his contract and retired not because he really wanted to but because the team wouldn’t trade him? Then as soon as he was traded he unretired? If that’s not quiting on your team I don’t know what is.

regardless of what people might think about this guy, fact remains his rose bowl performance was the most dominant individual performance in a college football game. That dude looked like super mario against a very good usc defense.

And this is precisely why people think he’s good. His reputation is built off of one game in college. He’s been horrible in the pros. Obviously you west coast people didn’t get to see his action for the Eagles. He’s complete garbage. That Rose Bowl game was a looooonnnnggg time ago.

And watch out, if he says one thing it will stick with your team forever, no matter how long ago he played for them.

I am from TN and actually watched VY play. He had some flaws but from a realistic and unbiased standpoint I will offer some observations.
1. Wouldn’t be a bad signing for the Raiders as he would come cheap and does have a winning record as an NFL QB. Yes he did have a good defense during that time but he did win those games as a testament to all of the comeback victories he has had in his career in TN. Fisher always played not to lose and would always keep games closer than what they should have been. That is why teams that should have been blowouts we were barely beating. It would take a 4th quarter drive at the end to win and that was the way Fisher would play. Yes defense was good but VY did win the games.
2. VY is use to playing on a team with no offensive talent. Had Lendale White as a starting RB and Justin Gage (#4 receiver on other teams) as a #1 but never complained. Did not get any weapons until drafting Britt and signing Nate Washington in his 3rd year but was benched by Fisher after getting injured. The 13-3 season was due to CJ2K and nothing more. Defense was good but offensively still struggled with the exception of CJ2K.
3. His accuracy and and awareness did improve, especially in his last 2 years with the team, even near the top of the league in QBR before his injury his final season here. Actually compared to what he have going in Jake Locker and his inaccurate passes everywhere, unless he surprises this season, I would rather have VY back. At least he does have a very accurate deepball (still needs a little work on intermediates and touch passes).
4. Would probably play better playing for a coach that actually wanted him there and actually played to his strengths like Harbaugh, Shannahan, and Caroll did with their QBs. Saved Fisher’s job twice in TN but Fisher never wanted him as QB. Was actually a pick of Bud Adams the owner. I never understood our coaching staff. Started doing a read option with VY and CJ and it was deadly when they ran it but would only do it once a game.

The best cost effective move for the Raiders is quarterback Vince Young… He’s 6′-5″, Healthy, Mobile, Has a strong arm, Has playoff experience, and a proven Winner in the NFL (31-19)…. You can’t go wrong by bringing this guy in for a TRYOUT….

Snark aside, this isn’t a bad move for the Raiders. Give him league minimum and a shot to compete. Making league minimum *should* keep his attitude/locker-room-cancer thing in check. If not, cut him.

Worst case scenario, he fails miserably, you cut him in preseason and you had a “camp arm” for training camp.

Best case… well… yet to be determined! But a decent outcome would be having a serviceable veteran backup QB at a decent price who (hopefully) won’t make a fool out of himself if he had to fill in for Carson and/or Pryor.

Why not?

It makes sense to bring in a bunch of junkers for a season. You hire in anyone and everyone that you can to fill a 53 man roster as cheaply as possible. No one is going to be clamoring for guaranteed money or long term deals. Bring in people that just want a shot.

This is rebuilding. And it is a rebuild of an organization that hasn’t been headed in the right direction since Rich Gannon and company. They’re probably in worse shape than the Jets, because there is at least SOME talent on the Jets team.

McKenzie is blowing it all up and starting over. Two more years and it could be a team with a talented roster and room under the cap. They might even be competitive. This season isn’t about winning games. This season is about getting out from under Al Davis’ slow descent into madness.

The Raiders should be checking out every free agent QB out there. Palmer should be cut. Pryor is not the answer. Unfortunately, any QB with pride would not want to lead that team next season. You have no chance of winning and it is just going to end your career. VY might be the only guy that will consider the Raiders. Taking a QB in the draft is not going to be the answer either as the young man will be overwhelmed by the lack of talent on the roster. It is a mess.

One thing I’ve been saying is that it’s stupid for a team to carry two completely different types of QBs that need pretty different playbooks to be effective. Palmer and Pryor are opposite ends of the spectrum in that regard. It means that the rest of the offense has to learn a larger playbook and they dilute their practice of either part of it. That’s a net loss for the team.

If, and it’s a big IF, they are serious about Young then that means that they are getting no interest from Palmer in a restructure and are deciding to go with a running QB system. For settling one type of system, that’s a good thing.

The problem is the candidates involved. Young and Pryor would literally be Dumb & Dumber competing for the job. These guys have two of the lower Wonderlic scores ever to make it into the NFL at QB. For these two, they wouldn’t need a playbook, they’d need a play pamphlet that had maybe 5 plays for them to learn.

If this truly is the direction, then I’d rather see DMac convert to QB. He runs better than either of those two, is smarter, and from what I’ve seen, has an arm at least as good as either if not better.

He was 31-19 as a starter but he also had one of the Nfls best defense for a majority of the time. Kerry Collins was 13-3 the year he took over for Vince , so it shows you it wasn’t the qb winning games . It was vandenbosch, haynesworth, finnegan, bullock , Thornton, griffin , hope( when he was actually good), and etc…
