Soft market for slot receivers could send Amendola back to Rams

Austin Pettis, Danny Amendola, Kendall Langford AP

Before Wes Welker agreed to terms on a two-year, $12 million deal with the Broncos, a source with knowledge of the market told PFT that slot receivers are “getting screwed.”

Also feeling the turning of the screws is free-agent receiver Danny Amendola.  Per the source, Amendola’s offers on the open market are coming in lower than what the Rams had offered.

If that trend continues, Amendola could end up back in St. Louis.

And now that Welker has gotten only $12 million over two years, the Patriots and others can put the screws to Amendola even more.

Isn’t this exactly the type of player that Phil Emery needs for the Bears? I mean, he does not have the vertical speed that Welker has, but he is money on the inside seam routes. Not to mention he is quick enough to draw doubleteams off of Marshall and Bennett. The big knock on Amendola is that he just can’t stay healthy. If I were Emery and you can get him at the right price I’d give him a flyer on a 1 year deal.

    Someone forgot to tell Seattle.

Seattle paid top dollar for a slot receiver. Only Fitz and Megatron make more. And a 1st, 3rd and 7th round draft pick.

Pretty sure the Rams offer is off the table after the Cook signing. Hope Danny does well and stays healthy in NE.

New England probably needs to make a move on this guy.

Perfect price for my Vikings. At only 27 years old offer him a 4 or 5 year deal at 5 million a year.

It’s time to wake the Vikings up!

I don’t understand how pats couldn’t pay 12 million over two years. That sounds like a bargain deal for as productive as he’s been system or not.

Manning just received an early Christmas gift, wow now the Bronco’s have the best receiving team in the NFL. I can believe this is happening, New England just lost a big weapon on Welker.

I can’t believe that Welker only got $6mil per season. He has had 110+ catches almost every season and there are team’s that are $40 under the cap. He must have given a good team discount.

  16. wludford says: Mar 13, 2013 5:37 PM

Vikings don’t need a slot receiver. We need a #1.

  17. paredskinwarrior1985 says: Mar 13, 2013 5:38 PM

would love to see the redskins land him cheap as we are in need for a true slot wr

  18. nateyb24 says: Mar 13, 2013 5:39 PM

Please Percy is more then a slot reciever and is 24 years old Welker is 31 he deserved his contract you don’t over pay for past performance.

  19. rajbais says: Mar 13, 2013 5:47 PM

    I thought he’d be a Pat.

Apparently the Wes Welker replacement was not going to be that easy.

The only reason Amendola got injured so much was because Bradford always hung him out to dry with his inaccurate passes down the middle. Anyone playing with Bradford will need extra protection.

I know y’all ain’t comparing Harvin to Welker..Harvin can plays 3 positions and is 24.On the other hand Welker deserves what Denver is payin. Patriots just being cheap

  22. monstersofthemidway545051 says: Mar 13, 2013 7:26 PM

That really is the screws. “Sorry Danny. We can only pay you $2.25 million a year for you to PLAY football for my team.”

Oh, and there is also a $500 travel stipend.”

  23. surfinbird1 says: Mar 13, 2013 7:35 PM

Why would the Patriots let the best slot receiver get away for 6mil/yr.,and go after this guy. Wes is tough as nails, and this guy is glass.

  24. stew48 says: Mar 13, 2013 8:42 PM

Give me a hint on how I can get screwed like Amendola. Tks.

  25. pastabelly says: Mar 13, 2013 10:35 PM

Amendola got paid because he’s under 30. Belichick math.
